i listen to the radio before the game and post game only when I am driving somewhere during the game or getting to a friends house to watch. I really like the post game stuff and Eli is not involved in it at all. Tons of games were not broadcast on TV during the Forney and Layton years and this was your way to listen live. We have been fortunate to have some great voices do college football in the last 35 years on TV like Al Michaels. I even liked Verne and who can forget the grandaddy of them all, Summeral, Howard Cossell and crew.

I love sports on the radio, especially baseball. I probably overstated things a little by saying I don’t care who our announcer is. I don’t have anything personal against Eli. I just don’t think he’s ever even with NASCAR been stupendously elite at the craft and I don’t understand the intensity of the reaction, other than again, Bama fans don’t like having their cheese moved.

And When’s the last time ANY of us seriously had to rely ONLY on the radio call with no video??? Unless you are a cheapskate, it was probably 2007.

I always thought Eli’s voice was whiny and his face matched his voice. And I have always disliked that he was the sound of Alabama football.

Eli doesn't affect the on-field performance at all, as I'm sure you know. What he DOES impact is the game experience for people listening to the radio.

He's been jacking up my game day experience for years. Listening to the game on the radio became frustrating. Didn't know what the hell was going on before and after each play. His tired act and overblown opinion of himself is thankfully over. This is not the university of Eli. Why is everyone bitching now? The absence of him at the introductory pressor for our new coach said it all.

Exactly. Congratulations on exposing that this was just an emotional argument for them.

I spent many weekends in the 2010s on the road in a convoy or out in the field with an FM radio while doing national guard drill duty.

Eli Gold was already not very good at his job by that point. He was aiming to be heard on highlights for big plays at the end of the CBS broadcast or on Sportscenter, not painting a vivid picture for the listener.

The difference between Eli Gold in the field on Saturday and Kevin Harlan on the radio driving back home on Sunday was astounding.

I don’t care for the Titans color guy but, yeah, the PbP guy is solid.

I like Mike Keith’s call of a game. Especially the way he calls a Titan sack.
SAAACK!
But his problem is he is a throw up orange fan.

during a 5 minutes drive time I was listing to Finebaum and the callers were talking Eli. Finebaum has sauces whether you like him or not. But, he said something went down about 9 months ago to put the U and Eli on opposites sides. He did not elaborate but said Greg B was remaining silent on this so as not to embarrass Eli. He claims Eli knew 9 months ago that his days and contract were numbered. When will the real story come out.

notguilty-I agree with you. With Eli full time, I always tuned in to Bama radio with the TV sound off. Last year with Stewart in for away games, I found I could not stand to listen to anyone other than Eli so I tuned out and listened to the TV call. I'll try Bama radio again this year but doubt I'll stick with it. I just love Eli, warts and all.

Eli has been hired to do TV broadcasts (I assume on a streaming platform) for Jacksonville State baseball. Sounds like he may also call football games for JSU in the future.

Eli probably told Byrne he was through traveling and wanted to do home games only. IDK.

My personal opinion is Eli was best at his post game radio show “calling All Sports”, back in the day.

He was a voice of reason with callers from both state schools and usually added to the call with his takes.

That’s been my opinion of him and the broadcasts since he got the Tide radio gig.

Insane to think that the guy I grew up listening to will be calling my hometown team’s games. Crazy.

The guy turned down doing pre/post game shows, Hey Coach, etc. because that was beneath him….so he goes on to accept a job with an arena league team and Jacksonville State baseball?

Haha
