He won a few in 2003 at LSU and snagged most of them in 2008, but has not won a COY award since then. Hell, he hasn't won a SEC COY award since 2009 but should be a guarantee due to the SEC being a hot mess.

Being the only undefeated team from a P5 conference has to put him over the top of someone like Peterson at UDub or Franklin at Penn St, right?

Based on the winning streak from last year to now, defending the title, sitting at #1 the entire year and being the only undefeated team. You would think it is a lock. But something tells me if Colorado some how's knock off Washington for the PAC title. There HC will win it.

I think the winner of the PAC 12 gets it. When was either program relevant? Standford, USC, and Oregon have dominated the last many years.
Let's face it. Saban having a team ranked #1 all season, most likely SEC champion, and 13-0 regular season doesn't seem the least bit impressive.

Not sure he will. There are other feel good stories out there like PJ. The coach at Colorado.

They'll give it to Mason. And frankly, I'd be OK with that. Mason has done a helluva job.

But was he a better coach in 2016... than Nick Saban?

As far as results compared to what he had to work with and expectations? Maybe.

The COY awards are a joke anyway. They are basically "Turnaround Coach of the Year" award.

Saban has had some amazing coaching jobs over the last few years. 2015 might've been his best. Any jackass can build a program or turn around a bad situation. Sustaining a program the real challenge.
