yes, although it is a faint memory, it did boost our record to a lofty, spurrier-esque, very good season record of 7-5.

I was at this game. A very cold night.

Sadly I was at the Music City Bowl against Minnesota as well.

That was definitely a low point as a fan.

That 2001 team closed out the season strong, including a shellacking of Auburn at Jordan-Hare. As a result of 9/11, they then played Southern Miss in a must-win scenario to go bowling. One of the few recent regular seasons where the Iron Bowl was not the final game (2002 and 2003 also fit into that category).
I was present for that as well. Remember the Minnesota coach saying, "You may have been outnumbered, but you weren't outclassed," to his fans. I have hated the Gophers since then. I will always think that 2004 team may actually have had a serviceable season if not for all the injuries.

The Music City Bowl was terrible, I had tickets in their section (good seats though), some of their fans around me were disgusting. Was a miserable and expensive trip.

Most people who were there seem to remember it as one of the darkest hours in their Crimson Tide fandom.

it was like my boy's first Bama game...it was horrendous. But we have lived to see brighter days. CNS is worth every dime we pay him.

Yes, I am remember the controversy of the FG that transpired afterwards. I have an Iowa State fan in the office that tells me all the time that they always give us the best gifts.
Good god the '00s were terrible. Outside of the MDB in '02 or '03, Gottfried's basketball teams, and the lone victory against Auburn in '01, those were the worst times to be an Alabama fan.

Yeah, I've always wondered what would've happened with that team. Not saying we would've gone undefeated but we lost every game due to one or two plays. Brodie could've been the difference. We basically played most of the season without a passing threat.

From Glen Mason's comments about class, to their band playing Rocky Top after the game, or just the pathetic play on the field, it was an all-around miserable end to a miserable 2004 season.

I remember that game...Andrew Zow brought us back late...beating AU and winning that bowl game salvaged what could've been a very dreadful season...
