While Benton holds the most prominent role among Tuesday’s announcements, he probably isn’t the most recognizable name on the list. That honor would belong to longtime NFL linebacker DeMeco Ryans, who has moved into coaching and will be the defensive quality control coach for Kyle Shanahan this season.

Ryans last played with the Eagles in 2015, which was his fourth season in Philadelphia. The 2006 second-round pick was with the Texans before heading to Philly in 2012 and his time there overlapped with Shanahan’s four years on Houston’s offensive staff as well as defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s two years as the team’s assistant linebackers coach.

Awesome - one of my favorite all-time Bammers.

That 2005 defense was a great unit that is almost completely overlooked in history.

DE - Wallace Gilberry (9 year NFL pro, 167 tackles, 31.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles)
DT - Jeremy Clark
DT - Rudy Griffin (AND HERE GOES. RUDY. GRIFFIN!)
DE - Mark Anderson (7 year NFL pro, 175 tackles, 36.5 sacks, 9 passes defended, 7 forced fumbles)
SLB - DeMeco Ryans (10 year NFL pro, 970 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 7 interceptions, 7 forced fumbles, NFL DROTY, 2x Pro Bowl, 1x All Pro)
MLB - Freddie Roach
WLB - Juwan Simpson (8 year CFL Pro, 3 time CFL All-Star)
CB - Ramzee Robinson (3 year NFL Pro, 2 year CFL Pro, 29 NFL tackles)
CB - Anthony Madison (7 year NFL Pro, 78 tackles, 1 interception, 1 sack)
SS - Charlie Peprah(7 year NFL Pro, 195 tackles, 17 pass deflections, 8 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 1 touchdown)
FS - Roman Harper (11 year NFL Pro, 818 tackles, 18 sacks, 11 interceptions, 15 forced fumbles)

Gilberry, Anderson, Ryans, Madison, Peprah and Harper all had really solid NFL careers. 6 of the 11 starters played (like were actually on rosters and played) for at least 7 years each. That's unbelievable.

Injuries cut his career short, but he's really smart. Pledged 300K to UA in 2011 for a scholarship in his name.

He was there when I was - he was a great dude. Like, not in a "oh hes a nice guy" sense, but he was a legitimately great human being. Was a Jason's, the whole nine yards.

Couldn't happen to a better guy.
