That was the 2nd worst output of theirs the entire year vs a P5 team.......and that includes the last 3 drives of the game when they went down the field. 100 plays is a bitch.
1. Auburn (5.12) (78 plays)
2. Alabama (5.16) (99 plays)
3. Georgia Tech (5.39) (82 plays)
4. Ohio State (5.53) (85 plays)

Offensive 3rd downs was the difference. Danielson said there were 7 drives in the second half, I believe, that were under 2 minutes. Maybe it was all game, but it still killed us.

5.15 YPP isn't a great number, but when you run 99 plays it adds up.

Yep - the 3rd quarter and first half of the 4th quarter our defense was on the field for what seemed like an eternity.
And even drives when Clemson didn't score, they didn't have many quick 3 and outs.

Holding them to 7 points up to 10 minutes to go in the third was a phenomenal accomplishment by our defense. However, when you started seeing the play count get into the 40s in the second quarter, you knew we could be in trouble.
Clemson had a dynamic offense with veteran leadership and one of the best QBs of all time. We weren't going to keep them bottled up for long. That's why our offense let us down in the middle of the game. The only way we win that game is if we kept Watson on the sideline. Before the game, I said 28 was our magic number but that those 28 points had to come from long, sustained drives. The fact of the matter is that there is no perfect defense for that offense when that offense is playing at a high level. It doesn't exist. The only way to beat them is to limit their opportunities.
Additionally, I thought Clemson dialed up some great playcalls. It's easy to say that when you have the talent they have but I was impressed at some of their calls.

Agree with all of it. And very much agree with Clemson's play calling, it was fantastic.
Their 2nd half route tree along with moving Watson around was as good as they could have done. And, while he didn't get a ton of yards last year or this year, Gallman is the hardest running running back we've played against in the last 2 seasons. That little mother fricker runs hard a shite.
The play they ran right before the end of the 3rd to Leggett was amazing. You could see they were up to something, and then it looked like a wheel route. I was sitting in that endzone watching Gallman out of the backfield and we covered him perfectly. When Watson let go of the ball I thought we had a play, but then I saw Leggett shadowing Gallman on a delay. It was gorgeous, just perfect.

My God 99 plays. How many YPP did the Bama offense average?

The more I see this, the more disbelief I am in. No defense can withstand that.

2-15 on third down on offense killed our defense.
