#Bama got the 4 WRs they wanted from start to finish: Jeudy, Ruggs, Smith and Shavers. They gambled when others were ready to commit.

LaBryan Ray said he knew it was Alabama on Monday night.
It's crazy to me how most of these kids claim to find out at the last minute, yet most recruitniks think they're locks for months.

Guess it is time to learn the names of the big time 18 recruits.
I guess that means I'll see you next November. I can't deal with year round recruiting like I used to.

Jedrick Wills said the decision "came down to the wire." He called Mark Stoops late last night and said it was a tough call to make.

It's tough to leave home, some can't pull the trigger.
And this class is like NCAA Football's Recruiting set on freshman, just picking who you want

This was a great signing day, and thank you TideSaint for all your hard work.
I know most people are worn out and may not be interested in this conversation but the Jarez Parks situation has had me thinking about the numbers for this class and the staff's priorities.
Solomon obviously had a spot so that makes me wonder who was next off the list. Is that the reason there was the Devonta Smith may not have a spot chatter yesterday? Saban complained about not having a true corner in this class. It makes me wonder how high Henderson, Castro-Fields, or Harris (were we recruiting him to play safety?) were and what would have happened if one of them committed. If Solomon and one of the DBs wanted to commit I just wonder what our priorities would have been.
Anybody have any insight on this?

Only Saban knows how the numbers work out and you have a better chance at robbing Fort Knox then to get him to say anything about the scholarship numbers.
This class will end up with 16 of the 26 commits as EE, with 2 blueshirts and a greyshirt.
I wonder how many players Bama will take in next year's class. With the 2 blueshirts, the greyshirt, and Byers likely coming in next year's class, that is 4 spots already taken up.
On a side note, has anyone heard anything else on Kendell Jones? If he can get here by fall camp, that will go a long way in helping create depth at DT.

What are the chances that Parks gets in without a greyshirt? Would somebody else transferring open a spot for him?

I would guess he would be first in line if an unexpected scholly becomes available unless Hulk needs one or Brannon is way more important than any of us thought.

Let me preface this with I am extremely happy with the class and this is more about me being fascinated with the process and decisions coaches have to make when it comes to filling out a recruiting class. We have a top 100 player, for the time being, greyshirting for goodness sake, that is amazing.
I really wasn't concerned about the numbers really (I am assuming we had 26 schollys considering that is how many we signed), more who was the priority coming down the stretch. Obviously receiver or at least Smith was a higher priority for the staff even though Parks was ranked higher (I know, I know the staff has its' on evaluations and priorities). I just find the what ifs this year really interesting, like how would things have shaken out if Ruiz was still on Scholly and Byers qualified. It also makes since now how most of the UA reporters said losing Ruiz was kind of a blessing in disguise when it came to numbers. Imagine if Ruiz stays on, Byers qualifies, Solomon comes on, and one of the Dbs wants in. I am guessing that means no Mathis or Smith and possibly a decision about Ruggs vs a DB which would still be one too many with Ray. The end of this class may have been completely different. But that is just my guess and that is why I was asking did anyone have any insight on Saban's big board.
It also makes me think that we get disappointed when we lose out on some guys when really there was no space for them, even top guys. That is an amazing testament to Saban and his staff to know that so many top players want to come to UA they have to make hard decisions to turn top talent away sometimes.
This also kind of proves to me we have some of the most connected reporters/insiders going at UA. From the Najee saga, to commit predictions, to who would qualify or decommit, to the numbers crunch game guys who cover UA or typically some of the best in the business. I read other teams information and so often their reporters/insiders are either just looking for clicks or completely clueless. It really makes me appreciate our guys.
