Our DL in a couple of years will be Hand and Cowart at DE with Payne and Gary at NT and DT when we go to 4 DL. Evans and Miller at Jack and Sam. Foster for a year. We need our yearly 5 star ILB...

Don't get me started on the secondary. Thompson and Hootie Jones at Safety and Humphrey and Brown and Fitzpatrick at CB and star... EJ will still be here for another year.

@LivingCrimson: Austin Shepherd is expected to start at LT this week with Cam Robinson's injury, moving Grant Hill to right guard.

Ok? So who starts at RT? Brown or Jackson?

That's great news. We might need Ragland more than big cam

This would stun me, but Cam at even 75% is a far better option than Shephard at 100% at LT.

Heard he broke his hand and had surgery on it, he will play though.

Ragland is a man. The pass rush is better this year than last year and we all know how that game ended for LSU.

If there is no Cam then the offensive line is going to make me stressed all game.

Ragland is vital to our success on D this year. Does anyone know how he broke his hand?

October annually presents a pivotal stretch of the high school football season, providing a period for title contenders to separate themselves from the pack. It's also a month when we see premier players rise up to deliver clutch performances under pressure, as they push their teams to key victories.

Several college prospects provided impressive highlights in October on both sides of the ball. Here's a look at who thrived in the spotlight when it mattered most.

QB Blake Barnett

247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 19 overall, No. 1 among dual-threat quarterbacks

October Success

Blake Barnett is fighting to keep his team in the playoff hunt and improved Santiago High School to 5-3 with a 2-1 month. He was sensational as a passer and runner throughout October, single-handedly altering the momentum of matchups at times.

He opened the month with a six-touchdown effort against Corona High School, completing 14 of his 17 passes for 256 yards and rushing for a 79-yard score in the 57-25 win, per MaxPreps. Barnett followed that performance with eight total touchdowns in the next two games, including a 491-yard passing clinic against King High School.

Through eight games, his senior season features 2,400 passing yards, 400 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns.

Recruitment Status

Barnett commanded immediate collegiate interest after taking over as Santiago's starting quarterback in 2013 and committed to Notre Dame last November. However, he backed off that verbal pledge this spring.

After spending time at Oregon and Alabama, Barnett committed to the Crimson Tide in June.

RB Jacques Patrick

247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 40 overall, No. 3 among running backs

October Success

It was quite a month for Timber Creek High School stud Jacques Patrick, who announced his commitment to Florida State and accepted an All-American jersey. He didn't allow off-field events to affect his production, carrying the load during a 3-1 stretch that has his team in good shape for the postseason.

Patrick picked up at least 220 yards in each victory, scoring 12 rushing touchdowns in the process, per MaxPreps. Even in a 21-17 loss to Edgewater, he still managed 130 yards and a score.

Patrick now ranks seventh on Florida's all-time rushing list with more than 7,300 yards on the ground.

Recruitment Status

He kept the suspense lingering for a while, but Patrick finally revealed his collegiate intentions during an Oct. 27 ceremony. Florida State landed a commitment from the coveted running back, who also considered fellow finalists Florida, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Alabama.

The big recruiting battles are just beginning.

Take Missouri City, Texas star corner Kendall Sheffield for an example. As we've been reporting for weeks here, sources very close to the situation have been telling us that Texas A&M was not the lock many thought. Our sources have maintained that Alabama is in very good position with Sheffield, and they still say that. But FSU a made major move during Sheffield's recent visit to Tallahassee and LSU is also in the mix. Again, we believe that UA is still in a great spot. But it's not over. Like several other top prospects (Byron Cowart, CeCe Jefferson, DJ Jones, Ricky DeBerry, Isaiah Prince, etc), the battle for Sheffield won't be decided until the stretch run.

The 5-11, 180-pound Sheffield is slated to make an official visit to Alabama on December 12.

Cowart & Jefferson
Speaking of the 6-3, 265-pound Byron Cowart, the nation's number one player from Seffner-Armwood, FL, it's been expected that he will return to Tuscaloosa for an unofficial visit on November 15 for the Mississippi State game. It appears that Cowart's friend, linebacker/defensive end CeCe Jefferson of Glen St Mary-Baker County, FL, will also return to Tuscaloosa that weekend. Cowart and Jefferson made official visits for the Texas A&M game.

Jefferson, who lives just 45 minutes from the Florida campus, was once considered a lock for the Gators. He might still end up there, but Ole Miss has felt very good about their chances since his official visit to Oxford on October 4. FSU also thinks they have a shot.

Speedy linebacker
For a couple of months we've mentioned to keep an eye out for a speedy, athletic linebacker to emerge for Alabama. The player we were referring to is East Mississippi CC LB Lorenzo Phillips, a 6-2, 222-pounder with legit 4.5 speed.

The Patterson, LA native and former LSU player has been an impressive performer for Coach Buddy Stephens' talented teams at EMCC. Many think Phillips is athletic enough to play LB or safety on the next level. He's being recruited as a LB.

Nick Saban has been known to take a JUCO player or two in every class, so keep an eye on Phillips down the stretch. Alabama has been in excellent position for quite some time.

From what I gather Ragland will be ok. He'll probably have a club though.

Why would he need a club for just a finger? I would just assume it be a wrap on whichever side it was on with the other side being free.

Byron Cowart has cancelled his trip to Florida for next weeks game and will attend the Alabama-Mississippi State game instead.
