We let Duke beat us again against Drexel last season and the team never looked the same. Similar situation. It's huge.

Well, NCAA tournament hopes will be toast. I don't really care about the NIT anymore.

Eh. We're a bubble team. About what I expected. Better than last year, the improvement is obvious, but we're still a bubble team. No presence in the post is not a recipe for success in March. Iowa state is a pretty good team and got the benefit of some iffy calls tonight, but athletically they are pretty average. Our wins are going to come from "out athleting" teams, we couldn't do that tonight.

Didn't we play quite a few of these non-conference games close last year as well?

I'm still gonna hold my breath until proven otherwise. We take way too many jumpers for my liking and don't get enough action going towards the rim. A lot of wasted movement on offense.

That is a very good basketball team we played tonight. I'm just not going to be sold on anything this early.

Nothing you have said tonight makes any sense really....

You think that if we lose tomorrow, we are going to make the NCAA tournament?

the defense lost this one for us....out of Grant's 6th season here the 84 points scored by ISU is the third most given up in games finished under triple OT.

(doesn't include two triple overtime games)

I don't think winning means we are going to make it or losing means we have no shot. It's an important game, but not the be all end all.

I'm not worried about that. Hoidberg runs a ton of NBA stuff and runs it better than anyone in college basketball.

We HAVE to win some of these games. A decent record in the SEC isn't going to do a damn thing this year unless we get a couple wins over UK, UF, or Arky.

I thought coming in that Iowa State was a top 10 team, and I still walked away impressed with them.

Having said that, that was basically a home game for ISU and we gave them all they could handle. If we remain healthy and play the way we've been playing on offensr, I think we will be a tournament team. When ISU hit that ridiculously lucky shot/throw it killed our momentum. And then the blocked shot that went in (and somehow additional FT) sealed it. It also didn't help having our deep ball consistently rim out in the 2nd half (outside of Coop). Sucks to lose, but I walk away from this loss actually more optimistic than when I went into it.

Side note: Tarrant needs a tight leash. He's a great player when he plays within himself, but these ridiculous 3 pt attempts have to stop... If he continues this terrible shot selection, Grant should start giving some of his minutes to Mitchell.

Fair enough, but based on recent history, there is no hope if we lose tomorrow.

Recent history said there was no hope before the season even started

You'll get no argument from me. To feel like we can make the tournament, Arizona State, USF, and UCLA all need to be wins. Hopefully one of Xavier and Wichita too.

We played Duke close, but that was a team with two great players who we matched up well with. The fact that they had no legit big man also helped. ISU is a 3-pt shooting team with a bully-ball stud in Niang at the 4. That's been our 2 kryptonites defensively since we lost Hines. It was a terrible matchup and we gave them a hell of a game. I was actually encouraged tonight.

I may not be remembering well, but I thought we also played Wichita State relatively close in Coleman last year too.

We also played UCLA well.

We did, though I think this team gives off a completely different vibe. Can't be confident they'll be able to finish until they actually do it.

The depth is the most glaring thing to me. We're putting real basketball players on the court. Not Algie Key and Retin Obasohan for 25 minutes. We've got a chance.
