Doesn't make much sense to crap on Mal Moore for some of those hires.

Franchione looked to be a good hire at the time. Who could have known that he would have bailed out?

Price was the worst. Mal just didn't do his homework.

Shula at the time wasn't a bad hire...he was the best we could get at the time...after the spring game...and under the circumstances. Or would you really have that much rather had Sylvester Croom?

Everyone thought Grant was a home run hire at the time. Moore identified who he wanted and went out and got him. Success at one school doesn't guarantee success at another. You might fault Battle for not pulling the trigger earlier, but the vast majority of writers and a large percentage of fans thought Grant was a home run hire.

The RichRod affair was either a master strike of genius by Moore, or a colossal charlie foxtrot, depending on what you choose to believe. Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle, and maybe we'll never know for sure.

Then there was the decree prohibiting the club teams from using the script "A" on their uniforms. Never mind they were representing the school they love so much, they are paying out of their own pocket to field a team. Like the Frozen Tide. Can't have a Frozen Tide sweater because good ole Daddy Warbucks Battle saw people using the script "A" without proper licensing an authority and by God, they were making a buck or two! Yeah, it was to support their club team, but who cares, that's Bama's bucks and Lord knows the athletic dept. doesn't make enough money!!

I was all over his arse in the fall for agreeing to 50% ticket price increases for the season opener chicken sandwich game, but for the above stated BS about the hockey team, he absolutely needs to be run out of town. Fricking disgrace. He's so disgusting that even getting lucky and hiring a good basketball coach shouldn't save his job.

I hate the fricking script A anyway. Would be awesome if the hockey team could come up with their own unique and distinctive logo and market it and make a ton of money.

I will say this, his hire of Dana Duckworth was a good one, but that was handed to him by the Pattersons on a silver platter.

Who here likes him and why?

I don't dislike him. He's a savvy businessman, a solid fund-raiser, and has helped schedule high profile games. Coaching searches are different animals. We all praise Mal for landing Saban, but if not for a call from Sexton in early December that may have been screwed up too.

I think he is embarrassing Alabama

No. He identified a top notch candidate and put every possible pressure & incentive on him to take the job. Not his fault that there were loose lips within the Ath Dept leaking info to reporters. You can bet that wasn't Battle wasting time during a search by talking with reporters.

If anything the dollars thrown around have communicated that Bama is serious about being good at basketball. Not a negative reflection on Battle that he couldn't get a guy to leave a place he's been for 9 years - since his kids were 9 and 5 years old - after that guy's employer doubled his salary.

I love the script A and the hockey team easily had the best uniforms on campus.

For sports like football and hockey that involve brutal contact...doing things on the field/ice that would get you a felony conviction if done on the street...a script logo is just too effeminate for my tastes. But maybe that's just me.
