Yes it might would be worth having a bad season just to tighten up the fanbase a bit

Still here, gotta say, I'm kind of glad we lost this game since we weren't gonna win the regular season anyway. I know it's weird but I think it may take some pressure off this team. RMFT biotches

25 posts huh? This board is supposed to be better than this.

Yea, I’m a newbie. Only been following CFB for ~45-50 years and only posting on sports boards for ~25 years.

So I freely admit I have no “street cred” here.

But if the worst that can be said of me is that I’m new here? Well, I guess I can live with that……

Who is bandwagon fan to you? A woman who loves Bama but will go shopping when we start losing? Some dude who only roots for winners (Pete Carroll's USC, Patriots, Bama) and gets a new shirt when another team starts winning (Georgia)? The science nerd from Indiana who came to school at Bama because they were winning in football?

I think another poster has answered the question better than I could……

Like any successful program, Alabama football has a lot of people “around” the program who are at heart just “Rickey Bobby” types. People whose REAL passion is talking trash and being a jerk to relatives and neighbors on Sunday and then to coworkers on Monday.

If Bama football ceases to provide that opportunity for them to crow and bluster at the expense of the people around them, they will shove the Crimson gear into the back of the closet and start wearing their KC Chiefs gear, or their Lebron James gear - or whatever.

These characters were nowhere to be found in 1984, 1997, 2000, 2003, etc - but ever since February 2010 they have claimed to be the world’s biggest Bama fans “Eva”….. (except for the winter and spring of 2011, of course! But they were all flocking back by January 2012….)

This is dumb man.

Sportsball fandom isn't some sort of fraternal organization or club where the members require periodic tightening up. We're not some brotherhood or whatever.

Alabama football is entertainment and folks can approach entertainment however they want. Especially now that College Football is, for all practical purposes a professional sport.

As long as folks are paying to watch the games and buying the merchandise, they can fair weather and bandwagon this shite all they want.

If the product sucks, stop watching. If it's good, keep watching. If the only reason some people watch is to trash talk an Auburn, Tennessee or LSU fan. Well that's fine with me and a good enough reason.

been a fan since I was old enough to care about CFB in the mid-80's. It's a totally different game now than it used to be. It's not the game I grew up loving anymore. I'll probably hold on out of nostalgia for a while longer but really, I find it harder and harder to get into every year. I used to watch every CFB game I possibly could. Now it's bama games and the playoffs. Soon it will probably be bama games only.

Something I see affecting this and is not "bandwagon" per se, but the transfer portal and NIL will play a role in folks losing interest.

That is what has me losing interest in the game not Alabama but CFB in general. Recruiting was already going to crap. Now with NIL and transfer portal have no interest in really following it anymore. Until August when fall camp finishes I will not get excited about anyone on the roster. Once the season is over I will probably take a break until fall again.

It is what it is, and I will still pull for Alabama every fall.

I think we may have a better coaching staff that aren’t nearly as good at recruiting.

Having a better coaching staff isn't going to get the players to come to Alabama anymore....
Money rules the recruits now!!! If your NIL isn't competitive with all the others, you will not be successful.

Oh yeah? Jimbo had the best players money could buy in that one class and couldn’t win for shite. Coaching is still a huge roll in winning and there’s still plenty of talent to be discovered.

Hell most of the nfl roster are kids that played for Northern Illinois School of Sandwich Making type schools
