Meh, not really a big difference in losing the first round of the NIT or winning it.

Makes a difference if we might possibly go on a run in the SEC tournament.

If Bama can somehow win these last 3 and 2 in the tourney, our NCAA hopes are still very much alive.

Don't let Bama basketball get your hopes up. This happens every year. Bama is NIT bound.

I think we need to accept the fact that this team just doesn't have what it takes to maintain success this year.

It's not anybody's fault. Injuries and an inexplicable decision by the NCAA before the season started put shackles on what Coach Oats could accomplish in 2019-20.

But give up on the tournament. It's not happening for Alabama this year.

What's the benefit of making the NCAA tournament with a team that's not really ready to compete on that stage? I think (if healthy) this team could go deep in the NIT and build some confidence for the future.

Can’t speak for others , but I had much rather go to the NCAAT than NIT regardless of outcome . Sick of NIT, plus NCAAT appearance helps in recruiting which we need

Not very likely though

If offered the NIT, I hope we politely decline. Waste of time and nobody, including the players will care.

Why wouldn't any fan have hope in their team?

Because we live in the real world where that hope is false and misplaced?

Wanting them to win is one thing, having hope is another IMHO.

Piss on the NIT.. Id rather lose by 40 in the play-in game of the NCAA than play in the NIT..and every player on the floor feels the same way

I mean I agree but they're going to be playing in the NIT, so.

According to Bracketology odds, Bama isn't dead yet..they have an 80% chance with 19 wins, over 90% with 20 wins.

So I'll keep pulling for the team and hoping Petty can return soon. You can do as you please

Pulling for a team and expecting them to do something are two very different things

I'll just be honest, we absolutely do not have a 80% chance of making the NCAAT by beating South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Missouri and Tennessee/Arkansas and then losing to Kentucky. I'd say our odds in that scenario are roughly 10% at best.

Our only remaining shots are

(1) Win out regular season - win 1st game and win 2nd game vs LSU/Auburn/Kentucky : 22-15 (10-8) - probably somewhere around 50/50 chance

(2) Win the SEC Tournament : 100% chance

It's cool to have hope, but it needs to be based in reality.

I know what Team Rankings says, and I don't believe it. It's impossible for that number to be anymore than a guess, anyway, given the nature of how teams are selected.

Also - they say we CURRENTLY have a 73% chance of making the NCAAT. That's just........that's just silly.

They are saying that based on how they think we finish..not currently.

The point is this.. If Petty can come back , get Herbs cast off.. This is a dangerous team to play. As you pointed out, and I did originally, if we can somehow mange to win these next 3, get Petty back and win 2 in the Tournament, we're almost positively IN.

Will that happen? Probably not.. But it certainly doesn't happen with out John Petty.. Thus the OP

Yes - and I hope that happens. I was very encouraged by last night (and the Ole Miss game). They played their guts out. Just need to get our guys back to 100%, continue playing with that attitude and see where the chips fall.
