Just letting u know that Eric went to Rehab in birmingham. The go fund me will be put in a savings account till he comes out clean and then will be used for the purchase of a car and place to live and then divided among the 3 children for future needs and schooling funds

It’s good to hear that he’s receiving the help that he needs during this awful time that he and his family are going through. Seeking help isn’t an easy thing to do so I’m proud of him that he’s doing the right thing for his kids. I’ll keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

I gave and that seems to be a perfectly appropriate use of the money to me.

My guess would be it is a free non-profit or state funded rehab center. There are several in Bham area. So, if the latter and an AL resident, yes, you may be paying a tax potion of that visit.

But, does it really matter? Hopefully the guy gets help, so he can be in a better place and position for his kids and his own long term health.

At some point it should just be about the posture of your heart. If you were giving for the right reasons, that’s all you can do. The need exists for finances beyond just burial, it seems, so why not help if you can and do so without conditions?

I think he probably means if you're a tax payer,...you are.

There’s nothing wrong with anybody who gave. Seeing the Rant community to come together for a cause like that was really amazing.

However, if he took thousands of dollars from strangers, after crying out for help with a sad story, and then didn’t use their money in the way that he promised it would... that’s wrong. I know addiction is hell, and I hope he can overcome it. But if he f’ed up, even under what is allegedly tragic circumstances, he ought to own it. And if forgiveness is warranted, then at that point, he should get it.

Given, we have very little info on this so far. We have to know more before committing to one outlook on what happened. More than anything right now, I’m just praying what he’s done is not as bad as it looks. And I’m praying he and his family come out of this alright.

I agree with what you are saying . I am just saying that those of us that decided to give should have done with an kind open heart for hopefully good purposes. I wonder if some of the money will be used to repay the aunt for funeral costs. As I said earlier if it is not used for the betterment of him and his family then he will have to answer for that one day

Is starting a Go Fund Me page a right thing to do ?I recently had my foot amputated because of a diabetic ulcer and have been in the hospital and rehab for the last 2 months. Due to being bedridden and wheelchair bound I had to move in with my Mother because I need help with EVERYTHING. Yea that's great for a 63 year old to move in with Mom. While living here some low down bastard broke into my house and stole all my TV's change , tools , etc.. I have Medicare insurance and the 20% left on doctor bills and wheelchair and bedside toilet and all is killing me. I need some help. If I wasn't chicken I would probably shoot myself but I still think begging for money is not the way to go. Am I just too prideful? What should I do ?
