Identity

With Alabama entering with a conservative game plan - Saban acknowledged that the plan was to run the ball and throw play-action passes - the offense had its most success of the season against a quality opponent.

"…we did not want to get behind in the game," Saban said of the conservative approach.

The offensive finished with nearly three times as many runs as passes, rushing 47 times with 16 pass attempts.

Saban credited his coaches for a "patient" approach, that he says could get the team pointed in the right direction.

"Well, I think (today) goes a long way (towards establishing our identity)," Saban said. "I think our players showed a competitive character today that I hold in really high esteem because that's what you want your players to do. I think we were just as ready to play Ole Miss, but we did not channel our energy in the right place.

"That is something that is established over time, so now we need to do it with consistency."

Saban remark I found telling: He credited the coaches for a "patient" offensive approach that saw three times as many runs as passes.

Alabama ran the ball 47 times. Passed it 16. Nick Saban also said today went a long way towards establishing an identity. You do the math.

That style has won three championships for us. I don't see why we feel the need to change it up.

Establish the run, even if it isn't effective early on. Keep pounding it with Henry, have faith in the defense, then once Henry starts getting 3 yards, 4 yards, 5 yards, take a shot downfield to Ridley

Run the ball enough, don't try and go for the homerun inside of our own 30, and play field position. Playing field position led to the blocked punt TD, and basically controlling the entire game.

Exactly what has already been said. Strong D and a bruising run game mixed with PA passes won us three championships. Whenever we try and play 5 wide with 3 passing downs, we get torn up from the floor up.

Our D is legit this year, hopefully we can make something out of that.

If we continue to play like vs Uga we will be hard to beat. Our online will become a steamroller on the run and open up play action. Play ball control and control clock and keep the hunh on the sidelines. RTR!

Most of us have been calling for this for the better part of the last three seasons.

Yep. This defense is the real deal and it needs an offense to compliment it, not go three and out and constantly put the defense in shitty a position.

i really enjoyed reading thru this thread. i'd also like to add that i noticed during the game, saban wasnt all up on kiffin like normal. there didnt seem to be anywhere near the sideline interaction between the two as in the past. hopefully they've got that worked out and that distraction is history.

if this continues coupled with the offensive philosophy of running the dang ball, then i really like our future
