Secondary should get a lot of practice this weekend.

WKU QB Mike White 25 of 31 attempts (81%) for 517 yds and 3 TDs.

Doesnt seem to have the running option Chad Kelly has nor as many talented WRs, still this is about as good a "cupcake" as you could ask for to tune up for the Ole Miss Game.

So does the Dline play more vanilla here and make the secondary earn it, bullrushing more and using less schemes to get after the QB or do we practice a more similar game plan that we will use against OM?

I think they will play this game like any other. What I wonder is do we use Evans against OM to spy like they did the second half of the Clemson game. If we can keep him in the pocket and light him up like Fla ST did I think Bama can win big. If he's in and getting outside the pocket using his feet it will be a long night

They finished 24th in the polls last year, so yeah, this is a good test. No your usual 'cupcake'. Finished 9th nationally in total offense.

Hope the defense is ready.

Are they still a high octane passing offense?

I think it will be a good test for the defense. This secondary looks amazing so far. Pruitt hasn't had the same types of trouble with the mobile QBs as Kirby always seemed to have. Will be interesting to see how we attack WKU's offense.

Yep. Put 500+ yards in the air on Rice last Saturday.

Really good test/prep for Ole Miss.

I don't expect to see anything different on D, maybe just a little vanilla compared to the USC game. Just need to stay healthy. It's the O that I'll be watching. Need the OL to progress quickly. I expect we will be focused on running what we want to run as opposed to what the WKU defense allows if that makes sense. Our D is great, we need our O to progress to the point where we can at least count on some long drives to spell the D against Ole Miss.

My hope is a more dominate running game from Bama by all the RBs and I'd like to see Jalen Hurts throw more than 11 passes. In particular, I want to see Bo Scarborough "explode" and have some 10+ yard carries.

If we can eliminate turnovers and force a few, that would be fantastic as well.

This kind of team always worries me as a cupcake. Not so much that they will win, but point out flaws that OM can exploit.

Plus injuries. I remember a few years ago when a cupcake was trying to take out our players knees. Forget who though.

Hoping a ton of pressure on the QB results in a lot of interceptions. Would like this one to be over fast and have a chance for backups to get a lot of playing time.

Yeah, me too.

Here's a totally meaningless fact about the game that I mentioned in another thread that got whacked.

Exactly 25 seasons ago, Jeff Brohm was one of the quarterbacks that participated in the arse rape of Bama in the 1991 Fiesta Bowl (Stallings first season). The score was 34-7, but the game wasn't anywhere near that close. Bama had less than 200 yards of offense and Louisville and almost 600. Ugly doesn't come close to describing the game.

Bama's only points came courtesy of a pick-6 thrown by none other than Jeff Brohm.

Here's hoping he shows the same generosity as a coach that he showed as a player.

Apparently he(Brohm) turned down the Alabama OC job back in '07 and said he wanted to help Louisville win the national championship, not Alabama.

Well, he did his part to help us in that Fiesta bowl.

Came in when Schnellenberger called off the dogs in the second quarter (that's how bad it was).

Threw three passes. One hit the ground. Bama caught the other two.

Then Nagle came back in and lit us up some more.

So that was close to 30 yds per completion. Unreal. I like that we have a pass happy bunch right before Mississippi.

This game bothers me on several levels. First, get ready, we're going to look and play like shite. Name me a time when we've played a cupcake in between two big games when we haven't. We'll come out flat and let them hang around for at least a quarter, maybe even a half. Then, instead of getting to play the scrubs early, we'll keep much of the first team in to put the game out of reach, then play the backups midway thru the 4th on. These type teams are dangerous in that they can score on nearly anyone and keep themselves in the game. The key to this game will be QB pressure\turnovers. If we get some of either or both, we're in good shape. If we don't, they will hang around and scare us for a while. ON the other side of the ball, we need to establish the running game early and pound the rock all day to wear them out and keep them off the field. I know our young QB's need work, but that needs to come after 2-3 quarters of smash mouth, wearing out the WKU defense. TOP will be a key stat in this game.

I had no idea he was that old, I clearly remember him playing at Louisville. I guess that means I'm that old. Yikes.

Last year, WKU had a 5th year senior who had started for 4 years at QB, plus several good WRs, who all moved on. Their O is still decent, just not as talented as last year.

Should still be a nice tuneup for testing the D. Thay being said, I'm expecting the boys to have 8 or 9 sacks, at least.
