I thought the offense devolved into too much one on one stuff last night. It’s done so at times this season but last night it seemed worse. There was no ball movement at all. And a lot of it was Petty and Shack who aren’t great one on one players anyway. They even adjusted to Q in the second half. I think his last two or three drives ended up in blocked shots.

When was the last game he played like you'd expect the SEC POTY to play? That's been very rare the last month.
No it hasn't. Herb struggled offensively the last month of the season, but so did the entire team at times. His effort on defense and on the glass has always been there though.
I was not a fan of Oats's insistence on running the offense through him, but Oats knows more about basketball than I ever will. When he did that, Herb usually had a smaller guard covering him, and the conventional wisdom is to exploit that mismatch. I'm hoping Ellis can grow into that role next season. His offensive skills are way better than Herb's are.

Yea I see what you are saying. I'm just saying I don't think they fooled us as much as Reese couldn't move to block it. He saw it coming.
It was just one play. Like the other poster said, the way they cut off passing lanes on our attempts to penetrate and then kick it out showed that they had watched a lot of film this week and prepared in practice.

Tough way to end the season even though it's the way we all expected to go out (one of many off nights).
Roll tide and look forward to next season!

You make my point for me. You don't expect the POTY to struggle on offense.

maybe i'm just imagining things here. but it seems to me we may have been leg weary down the stretch. my reason for thinking that was the arc on the shots flattened out for nearly everyone. the two main areas you can see it was from 3 and on free throws. maybe i'm wrong, but it just seemed so clear, especially on free throws. not making excuses for poor performance. plus another thing, when tired, you lose focus. that alone can get you beat from the foul line. still a great year!

Herb has been a limited offensive player since he arrived on campus. Even in our January hot streak, he wasn't contributing a ton on offense. His POTY award was more for his contributions on the defensive end of the floor.

Herb won POTY with his intangibles and defensive effort.
His offensive game has always been limited BUT he got so much better this year than last. I would have laughed in your face if you said he would have been POTY.
He also had the ball at the end of the game for LSU and he scored to win SECT. So I don't hate the move.
The biggest shock to me was that Shack completely disappeared last night. He was 10? Points below average
He gave it his all. Proud of that boy.

Yep. Makes you wonder if it was a regular tournament schedule with a shorter turnaround, does UCLA execute like they did last night? Is what it is though. We were all dealt with the same hands.
Hate that the season ended like that because this team was special. This was a Final Four caliber team and while I agree that the future is very bright, you don’t always get relatively clear paths to the Elite Eight like we had this year. Still a great year.

I will say I think the three things that killed us were:
1.) Not having a flow within the game/limited 3s.
2.) Oats OVER coached.
3.) Free Throws/Mental Game

But you can't go and say "oh we're so good cause we made the Elite 8, let's hang the banner." It doesn't work like that in my mind and never has.
So the football has sucked for 6 of the last 12 years?

I thought we looked tired late too.

The number of people who contributed nothing to this thread all season until jumping in to pile on and talk shite about the team over the last 12 hours is fricking pathetic.

Alabama makes NCAA Tournament history with free throw futility (247)
Despite everything else, with respectable free throw shooting, Bama could've and should've won it in regulation. 1 more made free throw.

How pathetic. Little brother syndrome is bad with the barner

It would have taken more than one, but yeah better FT shooting and we likely win.
Let’s pretend Herb hits one those two late in regulation, tying the game. That takes away the need for us to foul and gives UCLA the shite to take a game winning shot. I think it would have taken at least 5 made attempts that we missed to safely say we would have won. That’s at least 2 possessions in what turned out to be a tight game.

We were down by 1. If he makes both we lead. And neither was even close - both hard back iron.
Love Herb to death, but that was really bad.

Whole team played really tight - for the first time this year they felt the pressure and didn't handle it well IMO.
It happens often for up and coming programs - have to learn how to not let big game pressure get to you. Both the players and the coach.
