Bottom 9 coming up, 2-1 St Louis. Haynie, Vincent, Blanchard due up. They're a combined 0-10 so let's say they're due.

Haynie pops up. Casey Hughston to pinch hit for Vincent. Hughston strikes out. Blanchard flies out. Opening Day is a dud. An undefeated 56-0 season is no longer possible, we'll have to settle for 55-1.

St Louis 2 8 0
Alabama 1 7 0

Tucker Hawley takes the loss: 2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB

Today's lineup:

8 Salem
7 White
9 Moore
2 Wass
4 Overstreet
3 Smith
DH Goodson
7 Blanchard
5 Cucjen

SP Kamplain

Gaspard had said Goodson and Cucjen would start today priior to the series, so it doesn't have anything to do with Haynie and Vincent going 0-for the game yesterday. I do like dropping Blanchard out of the leadoff role until he gets some more ABs. This 1-6 in the lineup is how I thought it would've looked last night.

Game is on TideTv again and the Gametracker can be found on the schedule on Rolltide.com. I won't be around too much the rest of the weekend, hopefully we'll bounce back and win the series

SLU's starting pitcher is the 61st rated college prospect by Baseball America. He was mostly a reliever for them last season. He'll be another good test for our lineup, apparently he can bring some heat.

We've already left four on base today. St Louis scored 3 in the first, we got 2 in the third. 3-2 after three.

Here's a pic of RF today. Not very clear, but you can tell there are a ton of people our there

Meanwhile we pulled Kamplain after 5. His final line: 5 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K. All three runs were allowed in the first. He was replaced by freshman Nick Eicholtz who allowed a hit and a walk in his Alabama debut, but pitches a scoreless 6th.

3-3 bottom of the 6th.

Eicholtz's Alabama debut : 3 UP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 K. Makes way for FR Thomas Burrows in the 9th. 3-3 score.

Hell yea

Three straight two-out singles from White, Moore, and Wass get it done. Burrows got the win, he pitched a perfect 9th with 1 strikeout in his debut. Gotta go win this series tomorrow!

St Louis 3 5 1
Alabama 4 10 1

Didn't give up a run for the final 8 innings, including 4 from true freshmen. Mikey White went 3-5 with two runs scored, Wade Wass 2-3 with two RBIs (was on base 4 of 5 PAs with two walks as well). Danny Cucjen homered on the first pitch he saw, our lone homer thus far.

Yep 1-1 with Ray taking the hill on Sunday. I like our chances. Was seems to be as advertised and the young pitching is showing up. With this rotation we will win a lot of series's.

Yea our pitching staff has been tremendous thus far. It was nice to see the two true freshmen we're going to count on this year throw so well today. I hope we'll see some more offense tomorrow. St Louis has thrown some guys at us that were studs last season these first two games. The older guys have done well, some of the less experienced guys have struggled against that caliber pitching. I suppose that's the norm for any new season, but it'd be nice to see a little offensive outburst tomorrow.

BTW, there was a great turnout today in the right field seats. So all of you in Tuscaloosa, grab some beer and keep supporting this team. They have a chance to be really good
