This is according to FBSchedules.com

It's a $1.85 million guarantee for USM.

Wow, $1.85M?

I will say, they quit playing us in the mid 2000s because they wanted P5 teams to play home and homes. They have done a pretty good job making that happen since then.

2003 - Nebraska
2006 - NC State
2009 - Virginia
2010 - Kansas
2012 - Louisville
2015 - Mississippi State
2017 - Kentucky
TBA - BYU

Played them every year from 1992-2005. They hadn't expanded their stadium at that point, so there was no way we were traveling to Hattiesburg. Of course, they did a lot of a major updates since then. And that's helped to get some larger programs to agree to home and home.

But I doubt Alabama ever will. Likely just to host them every few years.

Just for 2019. Last played them in 2014. And 1992-2005 prior to that.

They can add another 20,000 to it and we still ain't ever traveling to Hattiesburg.

Oh, I know. But at the time they were trying to call our bluff with nothing to stand on. Of course Mal Moore wasn't bluffing. We were never going to play in Hattiesburg.

I don't think they actually thought they would convince us to go to Hattiesburg. I think it was more to show they would rather play Kansas and Virginia there than play at Alabama every year. They were pretty full of themselves at that point, too (as evident by firing Bower).

I like playing Southern Miss, a bit of a regional rival. I would rather play them every year, then a FCS school.

We pay a lot for guarantee games. Some schools only pay like $600k or less.

I agree. I hate playing those guys. Seems like half of their roster is made up of Alabama kids who are bitter.

My first in person Bama game was in 1990 watching Stallings first team lose to them 27-24. Brett Favre was their quarterback.

Tip of the cap to Southern, those are some mean sumbitches that played us tough regularly and got the occasional upset. They are dangerous and we gain nothing from playing them except not having to hear people bitch about another FCS opponent. If we win, we were supposed to. If we lose, huge feather in their cap.
