After Game 1, still not confident in Milroe

I went on to 247 sports, and I looked up the player rankings for MTSU.

I scrolled through the top 250 players, and I didn’t see one player from MTSU.
I scrolled through the top 500 players, and I didn’t see one player from MTSU.
I scrolled through the top 750 players, and I didn’t see one player from MTSU.
I scrolled through the top 1000 players, and I didn’t see one player from MTSU.
I went all the way to the top 1157 players, and I didn’t see one player from MTSU.
I have a feeling if I would’ve scrolled through the top 5000 players, I may not have seen one from player MTSU.

So, what did Jalen Milroe actually approve last night? He can have a O-line protecting him full of 4 and 5 stars along with 4 and 5 star receivers, and drive the ball on a junior college full of 1 and 2 stars? If Tyler Buchner or Ty Simpson would’ve gotten the start do we honestly believe they wouldn’t have succeeded against MTSU?

Milroe will win these easy games, but when the elite teams force him to pass the ball in the two or three tough games we play this season plus possibly the playoffs, I’m no more confident in his throwing ability now than I was before yesterday‘s game. Running an offense full of future NFL players versus a 1-Star U Defense didn’t prove anything.

The same as any other good QB against teams like mtsu. They make it look easy

I have questioned Milroe as much as anyone but I was pleasantly surprised last night. Obviously that defense was sub par and yes I believe TB or TS would have succeeded as well. However, nobody can deny that Milroe improved since his last start. This weekend will be a bigger test and seeing how the team adjusts to adversity will be good. Texas’ front 7 is good.

I think we have to temper expectations with Milroe in regards to making 3-4 reads. He’s never going to be that guy. IMO make 1-2 reads and either check it down or take off. I think he could be a better version of Blake Sims if he uses his legs appropriately. He’s not a pro QB like Bryce,Tua, Mac but that doesn’t mean he can’t evolve into an effective college QB.

And our offense was very basic last night. We didn’t have to run fancy stuff in order to beat them.

He looked better than Bryce did last year honestly. He was in command of the offense and took what the Defense gave him. What more should he have shown? Our offense looked abysmal last year with a number one overall pick and another first round running back last year. Were you confident in them? Let the kids play and learn while having fun. One game at a time. I’m not thinking about a championship right now. We need to focus on week to week progression.

Sounds like there is nothing he could have done last night to make you feel confident.

I felt that he ran the offense well (they never looked confused or rushed) and he made the type of plays we want to see him make. I think that’s all we could really expect from him last night. He did a good job and showed that he deserves the opportunity to continue to play.

I'm with you on this.

People will downvote us but they not being real about the situation. Did he look good vs Middle Tennessee (A Nobody)? Yes he did.

But...

Middle Tennessee isn't Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, Arky or Texas A&M.

He will have to win games passing so I'll wait to see if he can do it before I feel fully confident.

The thing that concerned me was the lull in the 2nd quarter where the offense couldn't do ANYTHING! Couldn't run the ball consistently, Jalen was getting pressured and sacked and wouldn't pull it down and run. We just went to sleep until the final 3-4 minutes of the half and the offense just shut down. Maybe that had a lot to do with how vanilla we were, but it was disturbing nonetheless. Gonna have to be all gas, no brakes next week, because Sark is coming and will throw everything he's got at us to pressure the offense to score and keep up. Defense will have to ball and offense will have to score AND limit the 3 and outs to keep the D fresh. I hope Jalen will be much more agreeable to scrambling next week too.

I think all of us agree that we still need to see Milroe do well, and do well consistently, against Texas and the SEC slate. That said, I think we can still be pleased with his performance last night and feel hopeful for what he could do going forward.

You’re 100% right. And that would be the same for Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner if they would have gotten the start.

I see a lot of people this morning saying “Jalen Milroe got better” and “what now haters?!” because of a performance against MTSU. Please stop.

Jalen Milroe, Blake Barnett, Tyler Buchner, David Cornwell, Ty Simpson, and Phillip Simms would have all looked good last night with Alabama’s weapons vs a severely outmatched MTSU defense.

You don’t prove you’ve improved because of a win vs MTSU. When he plays a good defense and succeeds, I’ll change my opinion. As of now, he’s still an elite runner who’ll struggle heavily if forced to pass.

Thrilled about the win, he did what he had to vs MTSU. 1-0 now.

You can say the same thing about Ewers. But for some reason everyone is fixed in on Milroe.

You mean the guys who looked shitty against bad teams and definitely did not account for 5 TDs against them?

Milroe played well last night. That was what he was supposed to do. That's what we wanted. Everyone knows that next week is his big test. Obviously. No one cares that you aren't convinced about his ability. Thread is dumb.

Send me the box score where Blake Barnett got a full game vs MTSU? Which year was it?

You got to come with something better than that.

Can't get a full game against bad teams when you're in so far over your head that you can't even make it through 2 series.
