First of all.. I’m probably older than most of you. So because of my age and wisdom..lol.. this is what I see happening in Tuscaloosa.

I grew up in the Bryant era, so I been around a while.

Saban is following in Bryant’s footsteps almost identically.

1960’s Bama - pro set I, throw the ball…fast smaller D and extremely disciplined

2008- 2014 Tide- power football, heavy D up front and extremely disciplined

1970’s - Bama changed to wishbone, rarely passed, big on defense up front.. not as disciplined (lots of fumbles etc)

2015-current Tide throw it all over the yard, small faster D and not as disciplined.

We won championships in all 4 eras I mentioned, both Bryant and Saban adjusted with the game and won 2 different ways. It’s why they are the 2 greatest coaches of all time.

My point in all of this is to simply say this.. at 69 and 71 years of age.. there wasn’t and won’t be a 3rd adjustment.

Bryant knew he needed to change his philosophy, he even said so.. but he was too old and too sick to do it. So he stepped down and passed it to Perkins.

Saban sees everything we see and more. He knows more than us that a change or adjustment is necessary to continue being dominant.

But he’s 71 years old. I’m not sure he has it in him to change for a 3rd time. Just being realistic.

I’m not saying he needs to go home and die either. We may win the National Championship this year.. and I really wouldn’t be surprised. But if we do it’ll be because of the players more than the coaches.. especially #9. He covers so many flaws single-handedly.

But everyone out there hoping Saban is gonna fire Golding or Obrien and start over are probably going to be disappointed. I just don’t think Saban has the youth and energy to “do it again”.

I’ve seen this movie before and I’m ok with it. We’re Alabama… and regardless of what other fans say about the future of our program, trust me.. we’ll be just fine.

You guys in your 30’s may be my age before it happens again, but the day will come when we dominate college football again.

I was blessed to see it twice, and good lord willing I’ll see it a 3rd time.

But I don’t think Saban will change again and our dominance is waning under his leadership.

I’m ok with that.. don’t like it, but ok with it.

I've thought exactly the same thing
But, I there is a more than even chance that Saban may make changes
His 71 IS vastly different than Bryants hard living 69
We'll see

I’m curious to see if he’d be willing to give the single-back offense another chance. I’ve got to admit, I’m envious watching UGA sometimes. Their defensive scheme is even more varied than ours, too. Please God, let us get a DC who knows blitz packages and can set us up with primarily zone coverage schemes.

All that said, you’re probably right, and this is the final look of our team on both sides of the ball under CNS.

Without rehashing what the OP said, I'm not ok with any coach that is not hungry to win and doing whats best for the program. If Saban doesn't want to make tough decisions, get out of the way for someone who is.

I understand that sentiment, Saban is still hungry to win.. I have no doubt. He’s still a great coach. But he’s a 71 year old man that isn’t going to be willing to reinvent himself…. Again.

He doesn't have to totally change, just tweak some things.

He said BoB promised he'd stay for 2 yrs when he hired him, so he's pretty much gone at the end of the year.

Someone has to want him first. If they don't, does Saban still can him?

His contract is up. Saban ca n just move on to someone else. I don't know when Golfings contract is up, but Saban usually recommends them to move on...

Some coaches are not fluid enough for the college game. I would never recommend a long term NFL coach to go back to the college ranks. They are too mechanical in their play calling instead of feeling the flow of the game and working with what they have. A high school coach might literally be better.

JMO but there is no way BoB would be back for year 3 and I believe both sides are just as happy for it to end. The hire of Bill and Doug may have looked good on paper and recruits might have bought into that deal of two former NFL HC's on the staff as a bonus.

Colonel Meyers: What's your assessment of this exercise?

Highway: It's a cluster frick.
