Currently, per most of the scuttlebutt and actual commitments, the Top 10 recruits in the state of Alabama for 2020 look like this (I removed Riley Quick since he is not going to play football)

1. Jeremiah Alexander (Alabama) (committed)
2. Khurtiss Perry (Alabama)
3. Emmanuel Henderson (Alabama) (committed)
4. Trequon Fegans (no CBs, Alabama or Miami probable)
5. Robert Woodyard (Alabama) (committed)
6. Justice Finkley (Alabama)
7. Shemar James (Florida) (committed)
8. Caden Story (Auburn) (no Alabama offer)
9. TJ Dudley (Oregon) (no Alabama offer)
10. JQ Hardaway (no lean)

As of today if things play out as expected Alabama will sign the 6 of the top 7 players in the state of Alabama (Florida the other, #7). Auburn will sign 1 of the top 10 (the brother of an Alabama player who does not have an Alabama offer).

Top 7 state of AL
2021 - Alabama (2), Auburn (2), Florida (1), LSU (1), Georgia (1)

2020 - Alabama (5), Clemson (1), South Carolina (1)

2019 - Alabama (3), Georgia (2), Auburn (1), Florida (1)

2018 - Auburn (3), Alabama (1), Clemson (1), Texas A&M (1)

2017 - Alabama (4), Auburn (2), Tennessee (1)

2016 - Alabama (4), Auburn (1), Florida (1), South Carolina (1)

2015 - Alabama (4), Auburn (3)

2014 - Auburn (4), Alabama (3)

2013 - Alabama (6), Auburn (1)

I can't remember a year we seemed to have less 1 on 1 recruiting battles on in-state kids with Auburn. The only kids we seem to have any sort of battle with them on were Henderson (barely) and Perry (maybe).

Wild.

It's obviously still early and I'm not willing to pile on in the troll threads just yet, but early returns seem to indicate that Harsin is a fricking horrible recruiter.

Dude is a frickin bum. Has absolutely no chance against the GOAT. My prediction is he loses every single Iron Bowl to Saban, which would be 3 maybe 4, before he's fired.

I think that he's clearly not a GREAT recruiter, and that plus the fact that he doesn't have a big shiny hook to go after kids PLUS the fact that he's competing in an absolute meat grinder at the moment.........it's a recipe for a disaster of a first year.

He pulled into a stale program with Saban, Kirby, Big Ed, Kiffin and Dabo all entrenched and rolling around him recruiting wise. Not to mention that Atlanta has begun to be raided by non-Southern teams recently in addition to those big schools (Ohio State, Michigan, Stanford, Notre Dame).

My guess is they really need a year this year in which they look like they know what they are doing and play good, sound football to start chipping away just a little bit recruiting wise. If they look boring on offense and unable to compete with the big boys, things could snowball in a hurry.

Firing Gus for Harsin was stupid. Auburn fans say Gus lost too many games he shouldn’t have, but he also won a lot he shouldn’t have.

I’d much rather have a coach that can compete for a conference title but is inconsistent than a coach that is going to top out at 9-3. Harsin showed nothing at Boise to make me believe he’s capable of beating better programs.

I think every SEC program except Vandy, who is hapless regardless of the coach, made a poor hire.

Auburn going to regret not giving Jim Leonhard a look.

Not happening. Here's why:

1. Their team is low on talent. I see one maybe 2 All-SEC players on that roster. Bo Picks isn't one of them.

2. Harsin has not shown that he's an above average coach. He took what Petersen built at Boise and did nothing with it in a very weak conference.

3. Their opponents are getting stronger. LSU won't go .500 again this year. Bama is Bama. Arky will be better. Ole Miss will be better. Etc etc.

Auburn will go 6-6 this season AT BEST. Bookmark this prediction.

Oh yeah, that was always a tough situation to step into. Gustav did no work on that front towards the end and then he had to come in and basically fill out the roster with warm bodies. A couple of their commits are probably a bit underrated, but they don't seem to be a major player for many of the top kids regionally, much less nationally. Because like you pointed out, it's a really great crop of in-state recruits this year and none of them look like they're going to be UA-AU battles.

Gus had holes in his recruiting (OL being the biggest), but he also had a sales pitch that resonated with certain kids. And he signed some top notch athletes on both sides of the ball. I mean, right now Auburn doesn't even appear to be sniffing guys that also being recruited by Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Clemson, etc.

They're doing the Shula thing right now - except the modern day USM/Ole Miss/State competitors are Georgia Tech/Indiana/teams from the American.

I still think the Auburn roster should be pretty solid unless I missed a bunch of transfers. ‘18, ‘19 and ‘20 were all top 10ish classes for them.

They've had a ton of transfers out of their Top 7-10 kids from those classes

2018 (4 of top 5 gone)
#1 recruit - Joey Gatewood (Kentucky)
#2 recruit - Matthew Hill (USF)
#3 recruit - Coynis Miller (Jackson State)
#4 recruit - Harold Joiner (Michigan State)
#5 recruit - Smoke Monday (starter)

2019 (3 of top 5 gone)
#1 recruit - Owen Pappoe (starter)
#2 recruit - Bo Nix (starter)
#3 recruit - Charles Moore (Marshall)
#4 recruit - Mark-Antony Richards (UCF)
#5 recruit - Jaren Handy (Indiana)

2020 (1 of top 5 gone)
#1 recruit - Tank Bigsby (starter)
#2 recruit - Zykevious Walker (starter)
#3 recruit - Wesley Steiner
#4 recruit - Jay Hardy (transfer portal)
#5 recruit - Kobe Hudson

So from the 2018-2020 classes, 8 of their top 15 commits are no longer at Auburn. They've got some solid defensive players and Tank is a manchild, but OL/WR/QB looks pretty ugly.

Yep. Their fans are currently going through the same process I remember going through during the Shula years. "He had a great camp and the staff loves him", "he was at the top of our board", "he plays at a small school so he's underrated", and so on and so forth while totally ignoring the fact that in order for it to be the truth Shula would have to know something that Les, Richt, Tubbs, Urban, Fatlock, Papa Bowden, etc. all weren't privy to, because they weren't going after any of those kids.

I mean how many of those "high 3-stars" from Mississippi and Florida did we beat out State, Ole Miss and Oklahoma State for?

Seems like Auburn football has died and doesn’t look like it’s coming back. They have no recruits at all

Half the class every year. It was a difficult time to say the least. Lots of copium being consumed.

I’ve never seen it this bad. They have very little fan presence on the SEC rant anymore. Seems like most AU fans have given up and moved on to basketball. Their 2 man competitors for recuits in Bama and UGA are killing them. They are also building a 60 million dollar football ops upgrade.

He's the best player in the state. Also I just don't see the offensive scheme they are gonna run beat Alabama.

Yet somehow they will defy physics and have that magical year that many AU coaches have. LOL.

All kidding aside, I’ve never seen Auburn fans this quiet. You always knew that they were vulnerable to UA and UGA possibly squeezing them out, but to see it play out like this is interesting to watch.

The one thing Saban hasn’t done is get a good streak going against them. Time for that to happen.

Auburn stepped up their recruiting after Tuberville was fired. From 2010-2020, their classes were ranked as follows:

2010: #6
2011: #5
2012: #11
2013: #10
2014: #6
2015: #8
2016: #9
2017: #9
2018: #12
2019: #11
2020: #7

Not too shabby. While we like to say that Auburn defies physics and somehow manages to win football games utilizing black magic, they have held their own on the recruiting trail for the last decade. However, that may no longer be the case if last year's class and this year's is indicative of a new trend. They're definitely going to be hurting with depth this season and next.
