First let me say he is progressing nicely, and will continue to do so. His chill attitude will benefit him in tight situations too.

My question is in regards to his throws, Boz said during the fall camp that he has pop and can throw. I see that , but I also see the ball flutter on occasion. What could be the reason for that, and is that correctable?

I'm most concerned about how twice he's fumbled while attempting to throw. Just an experience issue. His play will become more consistent as his career progresses. So yes, it's correctable.

He just isn't accurate. Gonna bite us in the arse a couple of games.

THe fumble yesterday clearly was on Bo running to him. The first one was on him though.

He definitely needs to work on his timing with the receivers. Putting "touch" on the ball seems to be his biggest issue. AJ had the same issue and he worked it out just fine.

Well, he is 62% accurate, and he has only thrown 1 pick to 7tds, and hes 18 years old. Hes fine.

I don't think I even want to know what is his pct over 10 yards downfield.

That said, he can, and I think he will, improve.

Not trying to be negative, but I wonder of the 62% accuracy ratings how much of that number is impacted by the jet sweeps?

The jet sweeps are considered passes right? Like the shuttle pass?

Valid points, especially the throwing hard making that happen, also causing him to squeeze the ball real hard and coming out of his hands (even though that's a 1 time deal )

I have a feeling our passing game as a whole (play and the calls) we are playing possum. Just seems like the team and coaches have this secret that none of us know about in regards to Jalen going off.

Hope I am right, Boz or anyone, any thoughts

He had a 66% (12/18) accuracy rate on passes 7+ yards downfield. This is including drops and contested incompletions and excluding throwaways.

Like to see his stats for completion % and yds without the jet sweeps factored in. They are counted as passes since the QB pitches the ball forward instead of handing it off.

Kiffin needs to give him some better options on some of the deepest routes. A lot of those he's been calling aren't high percentage completion routes.

My view is he needs to work on timing, reading defenses, and accuracy down field. He has a lot of work to do, but we knew that when he took the job over. His best asset is maturity and short memory.

I agree. I think it's also a mental aspect with him. Before Saban chewed his arse, it looked like he was trying too hard to avoid throwing INTS. I think that is a huge reason for his passes being so far off the mark. After Saban chapped his arse about not seeing OJ Howard wide open downfield, Hurts went on to go 10-13 for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Hurts is a true freshman. Everyone realizes how great he can be. The game is slowing down and still clicking for him. Hurts will eventually have that Neo moment. And when he does.....

Opposing defenses are completely and utterly fricked.

I've probably been more critical of his passing than anyone. The first half was pretty bad, but, he did make a couple of good passes in the second half vs UK. Hopefully, it's starting to click with him.

Yep, and all 3 are to be expected of a true freshman and are all things that can be overcome with more experience.
