Michael Harris homers in first at-bat of the season from the lead-off spot.

Excellent.

Nice of the Phillies to postpone opening day to tomorrow so we can focus on what matters today.

Great home opener.

Strider needs to pull it together.

Damn, he was 94-96, and I was thinking where is 97-99, but the broadcast team never said anything. Definitely wasn't himself. Damn

Great to get these wins, but we may be in trouble on starting pitching. Max was awful again. Might be an early call up this year for Smith-Shawver and our draft pick last year from FL.

AA is going to have to fix the pitching. Can't lose Strider have Fried suck then lose him to FA.

I expect trades to be made. Expect a big name trade for some pitching. Can't waste this offense another year on lack of starting pitching.

It's too late to trade Fried. Players with one year of control don't usually fetch much relative to prospects.

I've been mentioning on R/Braves that they needed to trade him since last season. I think the guy is a bit of a headcase, and he's quickly losing any claims to a Frontline Ace starter.

He wants to live out west and the fanbase has been delusional about an extension.

At this point with Strider down it actually makes more sense to keep him, and hope he doesn't get an upset tummy, or a blister finger come playoffs.

Braves have a lot riding on AJSS and Hurston developing this year.

I don't disagree with you about Fried.

Lopez has been a dog this season so far. Wonder if he can muster 30+ starts though? It'll be fun to see.

Something has to give though. Strider is probably done. 2 UCL repairs. Not many guys come back and flourish after that. Adding that curveball probably wasn't the best thing on his elbow. Why you tinker with 99mph and that Wipeout slider is beyond me. Hopefully he can come back. I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe a couple seasons in the bullpen as a set up guy or closer to ease him back in?

The Braves are definitely in win now mode with this offense. The Phillies have proven that with 2 great starters and a mediocre bullpen, a team can make a deep run with the right offensive pieces. Maybe the Braves sacrifice some offense for starting pitching? But who?

I dont believe Strider had a traditional TJ surgery- they performed the "brace" procedure which allows them to come back sooner. This is the same procedure that Ohtani just had.

They claim that the fastball is hardest on the arm, but as an old former pitcher myself through high school (Al Bundy Polk High) I found the breaking ball to be much more taxing on my elbow, but I probably had bad mechanics.

John Smoltz came back from TJ surgery 25 years ago, and went to the bullpen, and became a dominant closer. Iglesias has a year left on his contract I believe so It would seem the smartest thing to do would be to let Strider go back to throwing fastballs and sliders, and let him become the next closer.

Teams started sitting on one or the other with minimal success, but a third pitch definitely would have taken him to new heights.

I think he'll definitely be back, and because he had the brace instead of full TJ he will be ready for spring ball, and the start of next season instead of being out half of next season.

I couldn't argue with the success Strider was having as a starter, but when he first came up I thought he was the slam dunk long term answer at closer. Eventually the third pitch issue did us in.
