Should people on welfare be allowed to participate in the lottery?

I don't think people who draw checks through welfare/government assistance programs should be allowed to win money off the lottery. Obviously you wouldn't screen everyone before they buy the ticket, but for people who win over a set amount (say $1,000), a quick background check could be done before they collect their winnings.
Why should someone get lucky and win millions of dollars risking my tax dollars? Thoughts?

If they won the lottery they wouldn't be on welfare anymore, problem solved.

And in some cases such as the girl in Michigan and a guy in Pennsylvania, they continue drawing checks even after winning it. Coincidentally the girl from Michigan died of drug overdose about a year after winning it.

If they could only make welfare like an open line of credit. Any winnings must be applied against the principal of the loan.
I like it.
Maybe then people would get more outraged at the amount of free shite people get. You see Sally sitting there with 150k loan that has never had a payment made on it in 10 years and she is still drawing.

Poors who play the lottery should be processed into food for other poors.

Another way to look at it, is the lottery is a poor people tax. The way the government is tied into the lottery, those people are just giving some of your tax money back.

No. You shouldnt be allowed to buy lottery tickets, junk food, alcohol, etc. Give incentive to get off of assistance.

No smokes, no alcohol, nothing but necessities if you're on gov't assistance. In fact, instead of giving them money for food, they should have a box full of non-perishables delivered to them each month.

No. Of course I'm also of the belief that we need to go back to the government store where you got your government distributed/generic basic foods and necessities (was this way back in the 80s).

No. They shouldn't be allowed to vote while they're on welfare either. Or have babies. Or have cell phones.

No. Lottery tickets are a tax on the poor. I think they are dumb.

Should they be allowed? Sure. I don't think they should do it with public assistance. Isn't all welfare and shite like that on a card these days? No checks or cash, right?

They can withdraw cash on some benefit cards. At least here in KY they can.

That is the problem with welfare; the people on it usually have odd jobs or part time jobs to get a little cash to go towards their vices (because their food is taken care of) instead of saving/using it on more necessary items.

Yes, but they should be assigned a financial advisor to keep taxes straight & given a nice monthly "allowance" covering their necessities & some disposable income. Winning a substantial lottery, one can live off the interest if invested correctly & rarely touch the principal unless it's for college educations, a home, etc. In those cases, or emergencies, they would be allowed to do that. By doing this, they would be taught how to deal with money wisely, and it would ensure they would not return to welfare & their children would get an education & know how to manage money when they get a hefty inheritance.
