Since I live in Dothan, AL, I can see myself taking the day trip up there. Of course, I've never been to Legion Field, and I hear the area is a dangerous place.

If the tickets are affordable, I might go.

Wrong direction for me. I was hoping it was going to be Shreveport (first time I've ever said that in my life).

I don't anticipate that being an issue

We really have either a poor fanbase or a very apathetic one. If the games aren't in our backyard, we don't show up. Pretty sad.

Wish I could travel...my going to the Swamp will be less unfortunately due to a few health issues, but my spirit will be there. Stepson is 15 (he actually turns 15 in a week)and cant drive yet.

I will miss gamedays there and will now have to settle for once a year maybe. We need to start winning soon while Im upright. There is nothing wrong with my mind though (well...some argue that point)

Are you going?

I actually have to be in B'ham near that time. I might just go.

I have some experience with that area. The stories you've heard are true..the area directly surrounding legion field are not desirable. Do not park in a fast food lot or someone's house. There are a few big open fields for parking...for safety's sake park there amongst other people. The less isolated you are the better.

If you do not have tickets purchased, just wait til gameday. People will be giving them away. If you are staying overnight, birmingham has some very nice areas and good things to do. You just have to go a few miles south. Do not stay near LF.

I going to attempt to go. I would hate to see another poor Gator showing like the 2013 Sugar Bowl. For all the negative talk about Birmingham, my son and I went to the Ole Miss / Pitt bowl game 3 years ago and had no problems. Parked in a big lot close to the stadium, no issues.
Back when the first SEC championship games were held there, it was pretty rough.

Finch, I lived in Dothan from 1991 to 1996. Where you around Dothan then? Remember the "Wiregrass Gator Club?"

I was just young lad in the '90s. 25 now. I'm from the Rehobeth area. Pretty much in the sticks about 15 minutes outside of Dothan.

I worked in the B'ham area about 32-33 yrs ago for short time and hated it....I mean hated it. Unemployment was bad and most were ok with drawing unemployment checks...which is a foreign concept to me.

Was in the area when Bama football was not good. I also was there when Boston College came to town with Doug Flutie and he of course did his usual game changing heroics and beat Bama. Made a lot of $$ off Boston College in Las Vegas....betting with them and against them.

I'd pack heat to go the game...ok....j/k. Its a sewer hole though.

Hoover is nice. There's a nice Embassy Suites just over the mountain from downtown too. That's where I stay when I go there for work.

Parking should not be a problem because I don't think more than 30k will show.

wow...you think you aren't young NOW? You are still a young lad. You really don't even know who the hell you are til you hit the 30s at least. I had more fun in my 40s than at any time.

There's a killer pizza place over in Hoover if you like Chicago style:

About the only thing I miss about B'ham. My band used to play the Rock-n-Horse occasionally back in the day.

I wish I could go, but since my father recently passed away, I have a trip planned to spend the first few days of the year with my mother.

I lived in B'ham from 1995-2003. It isn't a hell hole. The town grew on me. There are great restaurants in the city, and very decent shopping. I used to take call at Princeton Hospital, and have to drive from there to Montclair Hospital (Mountain Brook) in the middle of the night. Princeton is very close to Legion Field. I never had any problem the four years I did this. And I was a pretty girl in my 20s when I did this.

BTW the best parts of town are the Hollywood/Homewood area, and Mountain Brook. Vestavia is pretty nice as well. I'm not a fan of Hoover- too far away, too much traffic.
