Being that I'm transferring to the SEC and really don't even know much about my own school, was curious to see what you guys thought was the most likely 'surprise' team for the upcoming season?

I'm seeing Arkansas predicted in the bottom portion of their respective league, but also saw a couple articles slate us as being a potential shocker.

Thoughts? :)

Thanks. I've been on a couple times before.

I've technically been living in Fayetteville for a couple months because I started a lease here, but have yet to go to a football game. Beyond excited for my first one. Not sure what to expect.

Transferring from Purdue, where football isn't exactly the same. ;)

We were going to surprise people.

But now everyone is expecting us to be great.

Yeah it will definitely be different. Football is life around here.

I would highly advise making some road trips this fall if you get the chance. However, it's not really a great road schedule this year outside of Auburn if you can make that one. A&M in Dallas is a fun trip but it's not a true road game. There should be a lot of Arkansas fans that make the trip up to Mizzou so that might be a good time as well.

Got to go to my first game in Fayetteville last season. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

You're in for a great time this fall

Florida is the popular choice for the surprise pick.

Ole Miss or Miss. State would probably be the surprise pick, but the respective fan bases have propaganda bombed the Rant for the last month or so trying to get attention

I haven't been here during classes yet, but I get the vibe that Arkansas comes out to support all their sports teams more than most schools.

From what I've heard, baseball and football are king here but basketball, track, and gymnastics also have very good programs. I know the Track Team doesn't get a ton of recognition in terms of fan support, but still probably the best in the country. Going to be fun going to all the games.

Drew Brees was definitely our claim to fame.

Ironically though, Blake Bortles (3rd overall pick in the NFL Draft this year), was on record saying Purdue was his top choice out of high school and he received an offer from them, but they wanted him to move positions so he turned them down.

Time for your first lesson on Houston Nutt. While recruiting Ryan Mallett out of high school, Nutt moved him to TE at our summer camp because he thought he was a better fit there. Mallett promptly stopped considering us and went to Michigan despite spending a large portion of his life within a 25 minute drive from campus. He thankfully transferred back when Petrino came in and became one of the top QB's to ever play at Arkansas.

You can't tell a quarterback to switch positions. Just ask Tim Tebow. That's interesting though. I didn't know Mallett played for Michigan.

How do you guys feel about Bret Bielema? Being from Wisconsin, I can tell you people weren't too happy when he left the Badgers for Arkansas.

Good to know. Arkansas has some really nice facilities which are apparently pretty new. Hopefully that will help the University attract some of the big name recruits!

Hopefully. It's going to be tough until we start winning again. I will say that Bielema is doing an extremely impressive job recruiting so far despite us coming off 4-8 and 3-9 seasons. If we were to somehow shock the world and go 6-6 then I could see this easily ending up a top 20 class. Which would be huge considering the dumpster fire that the last two years have been.
