Why do so many people hate Arkansas?

A lot of people talk about how hillbilly and uneducated Arkansas is. That's some of the state, but completely not true of NW Arkansas (one of the best places to live in the country according to a number of experts).

I'm bias, of course. But I think it's a great school in a really fun college town with good athletic programs. Obviously, our football was pathetic last season (to say the least) but we have a strong history of good basketball and baseball teams.

I don't think Arkansas is Georgia or Florida, we're obviously not a 'top tier' University, but it is quality.

Arkansas is ranked as the #63 Top public school in the country by U.S News and World Report. Above OSU, KU, LSU, Washington State, Oregon State, SDSU, Rhode Island, Texas Tech...Louisville.

Why all the hate?

I just meant academically. 75% of our students got over a 28 on the ACT. It's a good school. Great, no, but not deserving of all the hate we get on SEC RAnt.

Perhaps you weren't around for "The Great Humbling" as it is now known in SEC lore.

Nutt was worse than the last three combined IMHO.

Jury is still out on Bert other than we already know he is fat and obnoxious and irritating.

Guy before him was just senile or something.

Petrino was just a dick ... but he could coach offense.

But Nutt ... I really disliked that guy.

Come to think of it, Arkansas has hired some real characters every since Holtz left the program.

For the record, I haven't seen a single person at Arkansas that is going to the University that I'd describe as a 'hillbilly'. Most people here are pretty educated, especially in the surrounding community. I've encountered a few idiots in downtown Fayetteville but certainly not the stereotype associated with Arkansas.

1. most LSU fans have never been to NW Arkansas. The few that did go, went during thanksgiving two years ago, so not a great example. They have only really seen games at that piece of s&^t stadium in Little Rock.

2. Few SEC football fans really wanted Arkansas in the SEC. They wanted Florida State, Texas, Miami, Clemson, ect and were really disappointing when the SEC settled for Arkansas (same kinda goes for Mizzou). Most SEC fans would be completely fine if ya'll just straight up left the conference (Mizzou can go too, I guess, no one really expects them to stay too long).

3. On this site, the percentage of of troll posters to non-trolls is really really high among Arky fans.

4. LSU fans get frustrated with how often LSU seems to inexplicably lose to Arkansas

Are you suggesting Holtz wasn't a character?

LOL.

Arkansas had an open invite to join the Big8 since the 60s.

Arkansas was the first choice when the SEC decided to expand.

Florida State, Texas, and Clemson were all too scared. Miami wanted to stay in the BigEast for Basketball reasons. If the SEC "settled" for a team, it wasn't for Arkansas. Arkansas was the prize.
