IMO, he isn't in the ideal situation. He inherited a complete mess, and I don't see them giving him enough time to fix everything, if he was even able to do that. So far, recent history tells you that a mess is exactly what Tennessee should be, thanks to Lane Kiffin, Derek Dolley, and Phil Fulmer (to a degree). Their extensive history is rich in tradition, but times have changed...

Just to put Tennessee's 2014 team into perspective, they have terrible quarterbacks, unproven running backs, no returning starters on their offensive or defensive lines, a terrible defense, and so forth... I know they recruited well with the 2014 class, but not many, if any, of those players will be SEC ready this year.

How long does the SECRant think he lasts? Or, how long does the SECRant think Tennessee gives him? I see only 5 wins tops this year, with Tennessee likely finishing with 4.

he will get four seasons, unless he absolutely tanks in 2015.

worst case scenario, he leaves the next guy with a more talented roster than Dooley left Butch.

I think UT gives him more time than AU gave Chizik.

it's all on riley ferguson... Butch's fate at UT is in that dude's hands (no pun intended).

This was a good joke until we proved it was the right decision.

if BJ goes 3-9/0-8 with some of the worst blowout losses in school history in year 3, then there's zero chance he'd get more time than chiz.

If Auburn didn't fire Gene Chizik, we are likely still coached on offense by Scot Loeffler and in the cellar of the SEC with Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky... The right decision was made.

I'm still in the Josh Dobbs camp (Fingers crossed)

Granted it was just a spring game, but he looked like a completely different player than last year. Arm strength and accuracy being the most notable.

I was really disappointed with Fergys spring game, and notes coming out of camp. He had one solid series and looked bad the other 2-3.

Have you seen the highlights from the Spring game yet?

Just in case : Spring Game

Dobbs made some big time throws that actually had some zip on them. Something he couldn't do to save his life last year. The 20lbs helped too I'm sure

I will give Tennessee this; they have some playmakers at wide receiver.

Butch completely revamped that team in the offseason. They are unproven just about everywhere and will not have a great year, but the turnover from the last regime was pretty remarkable.

If he has another recruiting year like his last, they will be back to contending for the East in no time.

no... and it wasn't on TV so I didn't catch any of it... it's freaking sponsored by Dish and I have dish...

imo, dobbs needs to redshirt in 2014, then see where he is next spring... he may be the answer, and brings mobility the other guys don't, but I just don't see it (right now). granted, i've been wrong many times.

I actually did a few weeks ago. It's not fresh in my mind, but a couple things that stood out:

1) Josh Malone is going to be a really good player
2) exceptionally poor tackling. Granted, it was a highlight video which isn't a great glimpse at the whole game

UT should be patient with Jones. It is hard to recruit at UT as well as he has, although he has been a bit lucky with the influx of in-state talent and legacies. I will state that he isn't a very good X's and O's coach (He did some of the dumbest shite I have seen a HC do last yr), but if he keeps getting the talent, that won't matter too much. Plus, it seems like he has surrounded himself with a few solid assistants. UT should give him 2 more years at minimum. If they aren't bowling by 2015, he isn't the answer.

I linked it in a few comments above. Check it out if you get a chance.

Skill positions all took a dramatic leap, and QB play looks better from both Worley and Dobbs.

Dobbs made some big time plays with his feet and his arm and was the player of the day along side Josh Malone IMO.

Well it's an absolute love affair with him currently. Some serious tankage will have to occur for him to enter hot water.

As long as he keeps recruiting he will be fine. Eventually top notch recruiting starts to show up in win column.

I can't comment on how good or bad he is at X's and O's but coaching has to get easier with increasing influx of elite talent.

Unfortuantely you're right. Granted our starting S, DT, and LB were out most of the day. It was hard to watch. Bad angles, and Dooley not knowing how to recruit guys that run anything faster than a 4.6 have hurt us on the defensive side of the ball. Luckily there's a huge influx of talent coming in, unfort. they're all green.

Jones will get the time he needs to turn things around, but it's going to be another year or two before we see anything IMO.

It looks like former Clarksville Northeast standout Jalen Reeves-Maybin was shot this weekend. He appears to be fine and from the article seems to be in the clear. Just a wrong place-wrong time type deal.

He will have another 5-7 or 6-6 season this year and next year will be make or break very similar to Dooley
