I have been traveling to Knoxville for work here recently, and have noticed that the UT fans are actually kinda nice. I met a few at the bar last night- very gracious peeps. I must admit I was suprised. MUCH better than the gump fans, or the ones who live in gainesville.

Kudos to Tennesse for having some nice peeps.

I know csb. Dont be haters, its the off season.

They're not nice, they're losers. Think of the Alabama fans back when they were losing - they seemed nice too, but I didn't fall for it.

Now look at them.

At least LSU fans are consistent, winning or losing we're always going to be assholes.

You say that like it truly surprises you.
I can't think of a single SEC fan-base that doesn't have "nice peeps" affiliated with it.
I don't know if it's the digital age (Internet?), but we've slowly but surely become a paranoid society that judges pretty freely.

Do people actually believe some of the generalizations associated with fanbases? We're all the same, for the most part.

It actually does surprise me- only because I havent spent that much time in the Knoxville area. I have never attended an LSU game at UT. Most of my trips to TN have been to Gatlinburg where no one in that town actually is FROM there. It doesnt have anything to do with the internet.

I visited Knoxville last weekend. Every time I come back I get surprised how laid-back and nice the people are. Strangers smiling and being courteous for no reason.

I agree in principle, but some fanbases are legendary for their douchebaggery:

Texas Tech
BYU
Kansas State

Those top the list for me. I don't put LSU on there, because I've personally never had a bad experience in Baton Rouge or with Tiger fans in general. It's mostly good-natured assholishness with them.

It may be the altitude messing with their minds....lol, just kidding. I'm really loving the area, it truly is beautiful and lots of very nice people.

They actually tend to be pretty accurate. LSU's are the most rowdy/classless, and Alabama's are the most inbred.

You apparently have never met one of their "peeps" after a win over Bama. I live in North Alabama, and my impression is that their fans suddenly start coming out of the woodwork over here after a rare Third Saturday in October victory.

Every fanbase has assholes and every fanbase has nice people. However, I definitely think that the people in the Knoxville area are just naturally nice. Just how we act around here, not to say other places don't as well. I'm from Knox so I know how most people act around here and I've also traveled a lot so I know how others act as well.

For example, frick Atlanta.

How many legitimately inbred people have you actually encountered in your life?

Gotcha.

I do think folks believe all that they read online, though--particularly when they know little about a group of people and/or don't interact with them on a daily basis.

(Ex: I'm as big of an Ag as they come. Season ticket holder in multiple sports. Family tree is maroon to the core. Rec'd my undergrad & doctoral degrees from A&M and was on faculty at the university. In addition to the student groups I was involved in as a student, I remained very active with students as a professor. My point: Given my tight relationship with my university, I'm pretty well-versed in just about all things Aggie. And I've never seen a "jizz jar." )

believe it or not, most fans of other schools are nice people, just a little more obnoxious on gameday weekends. i've only had a handful of bad experiences with fans of other schools outside a game, and all of them involved copious amounts of alcohol. knoxville is a nice family friendly city with good people. i'm not surprised you came away with the experience you did. lived there for 7 years and don't have a lot of complaints outside that if you're single, not from there, and done with college, there's not a whole lot to do for someone in that age bracket

You would probably be surprised to know that I've encountered a few. Guess what? They are Alabama fans.

It's gonna get fricking hot pretty soon and I can't stand hot weather, so I had to make a trip in perfect April weather. Driving through the mountains in morning breeze was incredible. Can't wait to do it again.
