How come UA has 10 women's teams and only 6 mens teams?

Title 9 says you cant have more mens teams than womens, it doesnt mean that you have to have the same amount.

We have a mens T+F, and Cross Country teams.

Sorry for the hijack, but when did he say this?

Post 2007 ALCS I believe. Found it on SI.com. Papi could publicly drown puppies and I wouldn't care.

Did Bama cut any men's sports after it was passed?

I thought title IX meant that there had to be an equal allocation of funds for both genders which in practice meant an equal number of scholarships. Since football requires 85 scholarships, the athletic department had to cut non-revenue men's sport to achieve this balance. As a former wrestler, I despise title IX and what it has done to the sport of wrestling.

Edit: Here is a comprehensive list of dropped wrestling programs across the nation. The majority of which are related to Title IX.

The University of Nebraska-Omaha had to drop its national championship wrestling program and football program when they moved from DII to DI because they couldn't justify adding more scholarships for both programs and the accompanying scholarships in women's sports.

Edit 2: Alabama had to drop their wrestling program as did LSU.

I don't believe that's 100% correct. It has something to do with the amount of scholarships available for both men and women. We have more women's sports because football has 85 scholarships and there's not really a female equivalent.

On a side note, there are some pretty strange accounting tricks that schools can use to help their Title IX numbers. Schools actually report number of "participants" in male and female sports in addition to number of scholarships. Many schools have male students on women's bball practice squads and those males get counted as women's bball participants (i.e. women) for Title IX purposes. And it's allowed by the rules.

They are club sports; however, an NCAA hockey team would be bad arse. Their games are fun to go to.

I thought the Title IX didn't have to include the football numbers.

I'm for some womens rights, but I am not in favor of this rule at all. Just by the numbers, women don't partake in sports as much as men, but we are forced to equalize it.

So, the wrestling teams, etc. have to give up so girls can play volleyball.

Title IX has been pretty good to the Tide so far

But seriously, frick Title IX. I couldn't care less about those women's sports. I'd rather watch a men's soccer than a women's, and I'd rather watch hockey over our football team.
