I'm not a fan of Coach Cal, but this was cool of him

Cal starts off post-game show on Rupp court by telling Hickey family to stand up so UK fans could cheer them. "Anthony killed us." 6:00 PM - 22 Feb 2014

Hickey teared up after the loss and one of the Harrison twins came over and hugged him and told him he had a helluva game as LSU walked out to a standing ovation from UK fans. Cool display of sportsmanship from players, fans, and coaches from UK.

We get a lot of shite for being batshit but we do respect a great performance. You couldn't hear it really well on TV, but I had some friends there that said when Hickey came out for the last time he also got a standing ovation from the UK fans there.
Cal also had a Make a Wish Foundation kid there who got to be in the locker room after the game. He had been at practice all this week. Hell of a game to catch.

Easy to be classy when they win. If that foul hadn't off been called on LSU at the end of regulation you'd have seen no standing ovation for anyone.
Good on the Make a Wish deal. Cal isn't 100% scuz.

We gave Elston Turner Jr. a standing ovation when he beat us at Rupp and almost broke David Robinson's scoring record.

My best friend was at that game in his LSU gear and told me the Kentucky fans were great. Even the hecklers were just funning and it was a great experience. He mentioned their class in regards to Hickey and said many big time fans were still pissed that Kentucky offered the "wrong" guard that scholarship.

I was listening to the game on 870, they pointed out the UK fans giving him a standing O when he came out with his last foul in OT.

As much as I like Hickey as a player, we had Doron Lamb on the roster and took Marquis Teague in that 2011 class. Lamb was a key part of our Final Four run and our National Championship run. Teague was the PG on the 2012 National Championship team. And we also had Wiltjer, Davis, and Kidd-Gilchrist filling scholarships as well.
It's one of those hindsight is 20/20 deals. We went through the same thing with Chris Lofton in 2004 where we took Rajon Rondo, Joe Crawford, and Ramel Bradley instead (also picked up Patrick Sparks).

The guy is probably the most charitable coach in the country, but you won't hear about it.
They had a telethon his first year that raised like a million+ for Haiti. He was helping out at Dance Blue today.

Whenever I've been around Kentucky fans, they've always been classy and nice, win or lose...I have never had a problem with them. This is the reason I've always pulled for Ky except when they play LSU.
I can't say the same about Florida fans...and I've given them many chances to prove me wrong.
to the Wildcats...

I am just happy to see that the guy's Cal has brought to Kentucky have all seemed to pick up on what Cal does community wise.
John Wall, Anthony Davis, and Nerlens Noel are all guys I would have no problem having my kids (if I had any) look up to as role models.

Yeah I was at the game, during the intros every LSU player was booed(nothing personal, just what fans do hehe) except Hickey who got a well earned cheer. Very cool stuff.

I always pulled for Kentucky basketball EXCEPT when they played the Tigers. Became a fan of theirs when my cousin (Dale Brown) played for them. Had a blast with the team in New Orleans at the Final Four. Mashburn was the man and if Dale didn't get hurt diving for that loose ball, IMO Kentucky wins the National Championship that year.

Glad to see some people take notice of our basketball fans. We regularly give ovations to opposing players that play hard and have great games. I'm actually glad Hickey didn't end up at UK. Not because he isn't good, but it was better for him to go elsewhere to develop. Could he play for us? For sure, but who knows how he would be mentally when he would have been recruited over every single year.
