This year we lost three close games to LSU, Vandy, and TAMU. All three had major --- I mean epic --- breakdowns in the secondary that lead directly to winning scores. How many of those three games do we win with Brassell back there?

We'll never know. For Vandy and LSU just having one more scholarship defensive back could have won the game. Of course the SEC essentially said that they blew the Vandy game.

I think it would have made the biggest difference against Texas and Georgia.

Why?????

If you are asking Why am I asking this, then for two reasons:

1) I have never really bought into the theory that one player can -- or often does -- have a real effect on the outcome of a season. With the possible exception of a quarterback. I would never have thought that a sophomore defensive back could have a 2-3 game W/L swing on a teams season. But after watching OM this year, and the close games lost due to freak downs in the secondary, now I am not so sure. I think he could have made a difference. Just curious who agrees.

2) I am trying to get an idea of this teams potential for next year. We basically improve at every position with most of our key starters moving up a year without graduating. And then we are adding 2-3 impact players who will contribute right away and fill glaring weaknesses. It would be a disappointment at this stage -- all other things being equal --- we should pick up a couple of wins over this season.

Well if you get to have one DB back then so do we.

Honey Badger doesn't get burned all night like our freshman Jalen Collins or take a bad angle on that QB sneak TD.

Game wouldn't be close.

Well on the third and long for A&M latet in the fourth when Evans jumped over Senquez for the ball... He would not have been able to do that against Brassell. That would have sealed the game for us.

Against LSU, Brassell would have been returning punts, you have to assume he doesnt drop the ball that Neat drops.

Against Vandy, we were up 23-6... you have to assume he helps us keep that lead better than we did without him.

considering that he is coming back next season, I dont think its irrelevant. If he would have been the difference in 2-3 games this year, its safe to say he could very well be the difference in 1-2 next year.
