Rather than investing in the metal (which is a logistical PITA), invest in high-end third-party graded collector grade coins.
You still have to do your homework but a graded & certified 1907 St Gaudens Wire Rim variety $20 US Gold Piece in Uncirculated State will long-term out-perform raw metals ...

Buy through them as they'll stand up when the listed storefront won't.
I had the USPS deliver a $1,000 coin that I had bought to the wrong address and the company that I bought it from refused to refund or replace the item. It was bought by me on eBay ...
