If USC was looking at Will Howard to come in and take over, he's gotta be arse cheeks.

The NCAA needs a college QB job fair. They could walk around a large hotel ballroom in a nice suit with their resume and interview in portable cubicles set up around the perimeter.

Or an auction. But I don't think I can say that in 2023.

The kid who got mad and transferred from USC because he didn't want to compete and wasn't physically ready to take over the job.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The AD’s that have passed up on Kiffin the last few years are morons. Of course he’s a great mind but he’s now attracting talent at a high level. I really hope he doesn’t end up at Florida or Bama…

He's building Ole Miss into a contender. Money is well organized, and flowing. With a defense that a has a pulse look out!

Tough to argue with that. What's the fanbase's take on the lack of recruiting smoke compared to what he does in the portal? Is he just not as comfortable going into high schools as he is the portal? I could see the first two years fighting history and the lack of talent overall in Mississippi, but I find it interesting that he can kill it in the portal yet you guys are bottom 3rd in the conference in recruiting.

It's not like he doesn't recruit HS kids - he has the top talent in the state committed right now (how the hell is Kam Franklin not a 5 star, btw???). Lane looks at the portal as free market agency in the NFL. He's going to sign the top talent in the state from highschool, but then look for "proven" players in the portal. Signing HS kids is a gamble - sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. So, if you can get a guy that has proven to be a great player already on the college level - he's gonna sign him.

ETA: After the Georgia game, Lane was pissed. He made the comment about the talent gap between the teams and that they (the staff) had to do better in bringing in better talent. I think that's why you see such money being spent right now on the portal. Next season is setup where we have a damn good shot at making the CFP and winning at least the first round - and Lane knows it.

I’m surprised he’s not upgraded on Dart yet

I really hope he does end up at Bama but Bama would never even consider him and you’re an idiot to think Joey Freshwater will ever win anything he’s been a failure as a HC everywhere he’s been! If you’re going to argue this then tell me what has he ever won as a HC??? ZERO

I don't think Lane wants the Bama job. He's had the USC job and I think that left a bitter taste in his mouth. For this new era of college football Lane just might be able to make Ole Miss into a national champ.

Following the SEC the way I do, there are certain trends that have been emerging in the last few years. Georgia as a natty power is obvious. 'Bama has been one for years. It looks to me like Kiffin is serious about staying at Ole Miss and competing for championships. Vaught stayed for 25 years and won, even though that was another era. But it looks like Kiffin has learned some lessons about seizing the moment in time. There's no reason for him to look outside the SEC, as it will continue to be the toughest league in the country, no matter what the Big 10+ does. No one will ever top what Saban has done at 'Bama, so whoever follows him will have nowhere to go but down (relatively speaking).

I also see Texas emerging (after a long lull) as a contender. I expect the media types to predict the contenders in 2024 as Bama, Georgia, Texas and Ole Miss (in no particular order). I'm assuming Smart stays at UGA, BTW.

I also see the SEC getting four teams in the playoffs next year.

Too bad he left Tennessee for USC and hurt Tennessee big time.
