re: 6' or 8' privacy fence for backyard?

Replaced our fence 2 years ago, and went with 8 feet as well as building it up a few inches so that rain water would not sit on the boards and rot them. Results in a little more than an 8 foot fence, that I wouldn't change at all. We had the same issue in that our pool pad was built up and I could see directly into my backyard neighbors windows over our previous 6 foot fence. Now we have true privacy. Wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny.
