Is this really true? People have been down on Freddie and Wiggins but this year with a better DC and philosophy, both position groups have looked significantly better. OL still has a ways to go though, although I think the have made strides since the Texas game.

I mean unless we are majorly tampering with players on other teams to fill immediate needs in 24, there's no way for Saban to know who is going to be in the portal worth taking. Usually only a handful of top players, another 2-3 dozen FBS team fillers, majority never hardly contribute to the team they transfer to if they were able to be picked up by another team. Look at the receivers that have transferred out from Bama the last 2 years, most are barely contributing with their new teams.
I will say, recruiting this year has slipped for some reason(NIL would b my guess, maybe not paying recruits to visit), Bama has about 10 high 4-5* recruits with the rest being 3* fillers. Never seen a Saban class with so many 3* committed thus early(yes I know it's Oct and early signing is Dec).

tampering
It isn't tampering IF - word gets around that Alabama is interested in major talent and is willing to put ample resources into it... THEN said interested player contacts us

??...we tamper as much as any other team. Exhibit A, Drake Maye this year. Tampered with, got called out about it, got out NIL'd, all for a legacy player that ditched us in the recruiting process coming out of hs.

Did, and by putting the word out to certain players, that's tampering...putting the word out in general gets you run of the mill players alabama didn't recruit out of hs and probably aren't doing much at their current school..if coach Saban is hunting specific players for the 24 class, they have been contacted specifically, therefore tampering...it doesn't matter to me how we get the best players as long as we do.

Rushing decommitted from AZ. Do we have any chance of getting his commitment?

Then you didn't read what I said. You are twisting to fit your argument... which is a whole different argument. You can put the word out in general and let the slow drip work. You don't have to contact specific players. They are smart enough to deduce on their own if they might have a shot at a weak position on our team. What you are arguing is pointless. Players want a high profile leading to an opportunity to hit the bigs and money. They know they will have both at Bama

Rodney Orr and others have mentioned that Saban might have internally discussed a change in philosophy to become more active in the portal this coming offseason
I'd like to add that the portal is changing philosophies for everyone.
I'm thinking that within the next few years, the portal becomes more utilized than the recruiting cycle for the simple reason of: "Why waste our time recruiting a highly ranked kid if we can easily poach him in the portal"?

Trying to remember did Maye call out UA or was it M Brown? Honestly do not remember who said it.
The kid was never leaving UNC so money was not going to change that. And yes he was a legacy kid at UNC where his family always wanted him to go. Do not care who he was committed to he was going to end up at UNC and was never leaving.

Drake Pulled out and returned to his Fav - Unc in the '21 class
the good guys countered with Jalen Milroe
Much like the "trade" Carson beck to Uga - Good Guys countered in the '20 Class with Bryce Young
would I happily trade Jalen for Drake??? I think yes, eventho we all know it was never happening

For the second consecutive month, the Alabama Crimson Tide have landed an in-state defensive target in the 2025 cycle.
After earning a commitment from Saraland High School’s Antonio Coleman on Sept. 11, Bama has now added Myles Johnson to their class. Johnson, a linebacker out of T.R. Miller HS in Brewton (Ala.), committed to Nick Saban‘s program on Saturday. He becomes the fourth player from Alabama to join the Tide’s 2025 group, joining Coleman, Anthony Rogers, and Ryan Williams.
Myles Johnson
He doesn't have a ranking from 3 of the 4 recruiting sites.

Players have agents. We are contacting agents. Plausible denial-ability remains intact.

On3 just rated him as a 4*.

I'd really like to see Bama add a true DT to this class but it looks like all the good ones are already committed. I know Bama might be able to flip one but the odds aren't all that great.
The portal? That's kind of a crap shoot. You usually don't see very many good ones in the portal and the ones you do see, you wonder if the kid has a bad attitude or is coming off some horrific injury.
JUCO? There is currently one uncommitted 4 star JC DT (can't remember his name but he's originally from Alabama).

Jaden Hamlin and the offers are starting to come in for him:
quote:
- Southwest Mississippi's Jaden Hamlin is our No. 1 JUCO defensive line prospect. He may be moving towards four-star status as well. Currently at an 88, Hamlin's athleticism at 6-foot-5, 300 pounds is impressive. Going back and tracking down his high school information, it was not a huge surprise to see he had played some offense, catching a couple touchdowns as a senior. He's shedding his rawness as a defensive lineman and has explosive qualities. LSU offered on Monday, joining Georgia, Miami, Mississippi State and others on his list. He is an Alabama native who has many options to stay in the Southeast.
