Great first day. Glad to see a major at a great golf course with risk/reward and contouring like Pinehurst. Not the bland birdie race we saw at Valhalla
Low score wins.
I’m not enamored with a shot 1 yard off line being punished more than one 20 yards off line.
I don’t think...
consistently go 1.47 to 1.5 on smash
Gets some rest. It’s hot at Pinehurst. Good luck winning that major.
Seriously though, there are some really good players on this board. I need to get better....

How much time have you spent being gay at the various schools?
More or less than a decade?
Happy Pride month to you!

re: When “ninth” SEC game gets added to the schedule, who bids for broadcast rights?
Good lord OP. Do you really think espn/anc doesn’t have right of first refusal in the current contract when that happens?
I think that’s why we don’t have a ninth game now.
Media rights wanted the extra inventory without a plus up to the league. The league said, “we will stay at...

So 1 and 2 play this year.
How do they adjudicate IF there are multiple 11-1 or 10-2 teams for a spot?
Is it predetermined by a series of measurements like point differential or game control? Turnover margin? Yardage differential in conference games?
Or is it selection by poll ?...
re: Breaks my heart to watch Phil shoot 41 on first 9 at US Open

Golf is hard.
He’s won 6 majors if I remember correctly.
Guys got a gambling problem, but I don’t think he’d be bad to play a round of golf with except my lack of ability might be a disappointment for both of us....

re: if you had to come up with $1M in cash
Posted by makersmark1 on 6/14/24 at 6:55 am
1. Sell stocks, but the taxes would blow.
2. Cash in retirement, I’m over 59.5 so no penalties I guess. Taxes still blow.
3. Sell house. No mortgage now, but I’d have to live somewhere....
re: What interest you most this coming football season and are you excited?
Posted by makersmark1 on 6/14/24 at 5:26 am
I like the idea of knowing the game times earlier or at least the windows.
Hopefully Georgia being on at 330 a bunch will empty the golf course and I can get a bonus round in on many Saturdays....
re: What is membership like at Augusta?
Posted by makersmark1 on 6/14/24 at 5:15 am
There are a handful of local Augusta natives that are members, and handful I mean literally 4-5
It’s more than that for the locals.
The old Augusta families are well represented. There are also several doctors locally who are members.
Forbes or Fortune had an article about w...
re: Who in here follows the "FIRE" mindset when it comes to money?
Posted by makersmark1 on 6/14/24 at 5:11 am
When you FI, then you can choose whether you want to “work” or not.
Unfortunately, I’ve got to work until 1 March 2025. Then I am FI. I may do some “work” after that, but I’ll have FU money so I don’t have to work for or with a$$holes...

re: Driver shaft question

I tried lowering the tee height. It helped.
Also placing my hands two inches from end of club really helped center the contact and lower the flight. “Choking up.”...

This is more typical.
I’ve played a lot of shafts, both pured and not, and I can’t tell a difference.
Thanks.
I probably should work on my swing and not fret over equipment....
re: Driver shaft question
Other things to consider is tee height and ball type.
I use a TM Tour Response golf ball.
I tee it where about half the ball is above the top.
The flight is not straight up, but it just seems to have a higher apex than optimal....

Yes, it is adjustable.
The shaft was “pured”.
Does that even matter?...
Do you want a shorter shaft to help with accuracy?
I hit most fairways, but my misses can be putrid.
I thought maybe swinging a shorter shaft might lead to square contact more often.
Today I hit 10/14 fairways so not bad.
Two bad misses. One with just poor contact, the ot...
