Kirk Herbstreit Shares His Top Candidate For The Vanderbilt Job
Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports
The Vanderbilt Commodores fired Derek Mason after an 0-8 start to the 2020 season. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit is all in on Clark Lea, the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame, as the Commodores next coach...
quote:

“I know Clark Lea — he went to high school (where) my boys go to high school here, Montgomery Bell Academy, I think he went to Vandy,” Herbstreit said, via Saturday Down South. “So his name’s going to be prominent because of the job he’s doing with the Notre Dame defense. He’s going to be a head coach, whether it’s next season (or not). Jeff Hafley edged him out to get the (Boston College) job, so he’s a name that’s going to be out there.”
Who would you Vandy fans want?

They should have never fired DM. He was running a great program for that school IMO. Middle of the road records at Vandy isn’t bad. This year shouldn’t have cost him, all things considered. He seemed to be all in and fully committed to his job! Good luck attracting better.

100% agree. Coaches are against the wall already with their academic standards and Mason has always been a positive for them. And yeah, this year should have been a mulligan for everyone.

I was thinking will muschump. He has the SECe experience, the losing experience, & the 2* recruits on speed dial. It's a natural fit...

Herbstreit didn't say they needed to hire a black coach? What a hypocrite.

So crying Herbie sends his kids to a school that costs $30k a year, but he wants to lecture everyone about inclusivity?? That’s why I don’t listen to these sh*t stains about what “we” need to do.

I saw he makes $2.1 million as the DC at Notre Dame, and Vandy head coach makes around $2.5 million. A few hundred grand is a few hundred grand but I can't imagine the tiny pay bump is worth being stuck recruiting to Vandy and coaching against the rest of the SEC. You'd think he would wait for a real job to open up...

I figured it would be a woman, what with social justice being more important that actual football on the field.

they need a razzle dazzle offense... talent gap is too big... razzle dazzle offense can keep you in games and puts fans in the stands...

Here I thought he was going to nominate the girl kicker so they could lose 90% of their games and get SEC coach of the year!

Herbskeet doesn't have a top candidate for the position. He is not on the selection committee.

Vandy hires defensive-minded HC. And they battle you with tough defense for 2.5 quarters, and then wear out due to the talent gap. Then have stern lockjaw postgame pressers. Rinse & repeat 5 years later with the next DC hire.

Steve Ensminger, Scott Linehan, or Bo Pelini would be great hires!
