On Monday, ESPN's Paul Finebaum addressed Nick Saban's recent comments about needing more parity in the sport. One of his callers on his radio show stated that Saban made those comments with Texas A&M on his mind. Finebaum kind of agreed...
quote:

"I think you're right," Finebaum said, via 247Sports. "Since the day A&M arrived, there's been a whispering fear about what would happen if they ever got it right because — this is just my opinion, but there's only one school in the country I think that can compete with A&M from a financial standpoint and that's Texas. Those two are standalone when it comes to ability and resources, and this is a money game right now that we're talking about here. I think, when you hear the Sabans of the world complaining, that's why he's saying what he's saying."
Do you agree?

I don't even understand the basis for this analysis. Is he talking about school's budgets or how much the alumni boosters put up, what? If you are talking about the school itself, Harvard and Yale have much more money than A&M and it obviously hasn't leant itself to great football teams. I guess the super rich Ivy League guys just don't care to invest in football.

You just answered your own question that you didn’t need to ask, then.

I don’t know what Harvard endowment is now, but it has been historically huge. If you are referring to overall budget, then I’m sure Texas’ dwarfs harvard’s.

Texas and A&M have had those same advantages since they invented football (even moreso when they were in the Southwest and Big 12 conferences). They've been good at times, but they've hardly dominated the game. I don't expect they to do so in the future.

This is long so don’t read it if you’re not looking for perspective, ask yourself if you ever thought that BAMA would win NC’s almost every other year under Saban. Saban wouldn’t leave BAMA if he didn’t believe that he’d do BETTER at another school. Saban has only considered ONE other job since he’s been at BAMA and he could take ANY job he wants. If opportunity is directly linked to financial resources, I’ll just state the facts… UT is flying in a different stratosphere than aTm. UT makes aTm look like the “red headed step-children” they are. UT makes Bama, LSU, etc look even worse. But Bama & LSU win NC’s in spite of the huge financial advantage held by aTm. That’s because Aggy is eternally jinxed and they know it. If academics matter, UT wins on that criteria too. I’m from La, an LSU alum, lived in Tx for 18yrs, and I’m well aware of the ongoing battle b/w aTm & UT. I happen to know which is harder to get accepted to because 2/3 of my kids applied to and were accepted by both. My oldest was accepted into the Biomedical Engineering program at UT ~2017 so I know what I’m talking about. She accepted a full academic scholarship from TCU…graduated from TCU in 20…and just received her masters from UL last week. She was never really considering aTm. She considered Vanderbilt & Rice which were/are in the same academic stratosphere as UT. aTm IS a better academic institution than LSU but it’s harder to get an academic scholarship at LSU than it is at aTm. Bama is one of the easiest. My youngest accepted an academic scholarship at LSU and will start this fall. So…I know WTF I’m talking about and YES I’m bragging about my awesome kids. LOL…as parents we should do that!! Reality is that Stanford is the only real competitor to UT unless you believe that Harvard could compete for NC’s before Saban is drinking his meals from a sippy cup. If UT & aTm’s endowments we’re publically traded companies… UT could buy aTm x3 and have a few billion left over. And finally…in this fricked up world of materialism, if you were an alum from UT and owned 99% of that stock…you’d be like Elon Musk. If you owned 99% of aTm…call yourself Jeff Bezos. The difference is that Bezos was actually the richest man in the world (last year) while aTm has never been #1…in Texas. Elon Musk just passed Bezos like a fricking hobo on the side of a railroad track and that delta can be compared to Gates’ total NW today…-100b. Yep, I’m talking Microsoft’s Bill Gates. Me comparing aTm to Bezos is waaaay generous…

Anytime someone starts talking about money and such like this towards college football, I immediately think they are dumb. These schools and programs have had this money and this stuff for decades now. It's not about how much money you have, it's about how much you are willing to spend, and how you spend it.
user avatar
WildTchoupitoulas23 months
No, it's about how much money you have AND how much of it you're willing to spend. Auburn wouldn't have that 2010 title if State could've come up with just a little more scratch for Newton. They were willing, they just didn't have it.

They have had money forever and this bullshite was talked about as far back as Jackie Sherrill. It’s old. Since joining the SEC, A&M has a 2-8 record against both Bama and LSU for a combined record of 4-16. A&M has never won the SEC West and has never won the SEC. LSU beat their arse last year with a lame duck head coach and staff and about 55 players while the team had been in complete disaray. Yet, Nick Saban is supposedly “worried about Texas A&M” when he shared a Division with the 2nd most successful team in the country over the last 20 years. That team is LSU. LSU has won 7 SEC West Titles; 5SEC Titles; played in 4 National Championship Games; and won 3 National Championships. But, we continue to hear “A&M has all that money”. Uh, OK.

Just to demonstrate how agenda driven and idiotic some of these posters are, there is a down vote for the comments I made about Finebaum’s comments. Everything I posted was true and factual yet some on here just don’t want to deal in reality. I mean down post away. I just wonder what reality this type of person lives in. It’s a puzzle to me.
