Former NFL player and current ESPN College Football analyst Trevor Matich unveiled his new playoff foursome prediction which included two teams from the SEC- Ole Miss and LSU.

Matich has Ole Miss as his No. 1 team playing No. 4 Michigan State and LSU has his No. 2 team playing No. 4 Utah.

I do not see how a late season loss by either LSU or Ole Miss would allow them a high ranking sufficient for both to get into the playoff. Just not enough season left to climb back up unless teams ahead of them start losing like crazy. Of course it happened in 2007 for LSU and 2011 for Alabama but is still unlikely.

How exactly would that work? I would assume that Ole Miss goes undefeated and wins the SEC. LSU would have to keep the Ole Miss game close, and benefit from Ole Miss beating a two loss team from the East in the SECCG.

I feel like the remaining variables would involve a lot of late losses by highly ranked teams like in 2007.
