How does this effect us in recruiting, Do we try and sign another back, or stick with what we got while he takes a medical redshirt. I know numbers are tight

Any juco or grad transfer candidates?

We are just needing/wanting a 1 year band aid.

See recruiting thread.

Already have another 4/5 star back committed. He will not medical redshirt. Most likely ready to go by the beginning of the season.

Please stop. We have plenty of time with him and we have the #2 back in the country signed. Go away with shite and just wish him well. You make us all look bad

Stop with what? We like having 2 backs in every classes for depth. While he will medical redshirt it still sucks

It appears to just be a standard ACL tear with no other ligaments damaged (he didn't even know he tore it so it wasn't some gruesome injury), and considering we're over 10 months away from opening kickoff it's kind of crazy to think a medical redshirt is in his future. So we'll stick with Zamir/Cook and Zamir will probably play most of the season.

ACL take a full year to heal, he mostly won't be back until 2019. He will not see the field next year.

Unless he has some major setback in his rehab there is almost no way this happens.

I don't disagree but then I don't see him being rush back either. Time will tell I guess.

ACL rehab has not been considered a 12 month return to play injury for many years. Additionally, we already have a second back committed.

I assume you are trolling?

"ACL take a full year to heal"

This was never true. It's even less true now with ACL Bridge surgery.

Yes, let's take another RB when we have other needs and still have Swift, Holyfield, Herrien, and the #3 RB commit in the nation signed next year

ACL Bridge surgery.

Really interesting procedure. Also still in trial phase. Definitely not being used on athletes yet.

Your assuming every person responds the same to surgery. I've 10 months and I've seen more than 12 months.

Interestingly, the woman who is developing it was a PHD engineering student at Stanford, got interested when a friend tore their ACL.
So she then goes to Harvard Medical school and was able to get the funding for the research only because the NFLPA somehow was funding Harvard M.S.

I realize it's in it's infancy, wasn't sure if it was being used on athletes (or even humans) yet.

I'm assuming his outcome will be within a standard deviation of the norm. You are assuming he has an atypically bad outcome, especially when considering that he is in elite physical condition and will have great rehab, which are huge factors that help determine return to play.

Nick Chubb had a dramatically worse injury with lots of collateral damage, and he was back in less than 12 months.

Just stop.

1) Medical redshirt is far from guaranteed as pointed out. 10 months before the *first game* is played... even if it was a true 1 year recovery (which is uncommon now with advancements in that particular procedure)... it's midway through the season. A lot will depend on him and the recovery process... Knowing what he's already worked through and past in his life, I have no doubt he'll have a good shot to come out on the short end of recovery here as well.

2) Sign another back - Why? We still have Swift, Holyfield, Herrien returning, adding the #3 RB in Cook... that's 4 RBs deep even without accounting for Zamir returning. It's unnecessary in a class that doesn't have a lot of room.

3) This kind of thread, whether intended or not, looks bad. Wish the kid a speedy recovery and leave it at that.

Whether it's her procedure or some other iteration of a biologic solution, it is a promising direction for sports medicine in the future. They won't utilize a new procedure like that for a high level athlete until they have long term outcomes data. Even if the early trials are successful, their is no way to tell if the regrow ligament could have complications down the road, which has been the killer for previous synthetic ligament grafts.

Zamir will most likely get a hamstring autograft

Medical redshirt

The terminology for medical redshirt is just stupid.

It is basically used for a 6 year football player.

Considering an elite back is going to look long and hard at a 3 and out, there is no point to even bring forward a medical redshirt option. It is highly unlikely that he stays over 4 years.
