Less than 2 weeks ago, 12 days to be exact, Manny Diaz was begining his first head coaching job at Temple University....

Today, he's the head coach at Miami and has already hired an OC, two co-DCs, and almost all of the rest of his staff.

Meanwhile, Mel Tucker took the Colorado job and left over a month ago.

What the hell is happening here? Why don't we have a DC yet?

I feel like it’s the same with OC search. They want to bring a guy in as DC or Co-DC and they’re vetting folks. Dunno if they are swinging or missing or not. More and more, thoigh, I’m thiiniing that Turd Chip Towers is right and we’ll promote either Lanning and or Schuman and get another staffer.

Kirby needs to drop the co-crap and just hire a DC. If he wants Ansley, and it would be a great choice, go hire him.

Hiring the right people isn't easy.

No offense....but

Temple University

and

Miami

are not programs that I would like to be emulating right now.

It's a tough process and there is a lot of movement going on all over the country right now. I am sure Kirby has his plan and will go about it accordingly.

Keep in mind, that we just went through a quiet period in recruiting and now the dead period is completely over. He has work to do on that front as well to keep guys in tact, and have them trust Kirby that he will hire the right guy and that Kirby runs the show anyways ( )

And...…..having a 30 day head start on everyone else should help with that.

Apparently not though.

It was a simple time-frame reference. For perspective.

Here. I'll try stating it another way...

Holy shite. Manny Diaz has held three different coaching positions himself in a span of two weeks and has still found time to hire a staff......when we've had a month to hire a DC and have jack squat to show for it.

We should make predictions to kill time since there seems to be no rush on this...

Put me down for Lapoi to be hired as DC with Schuman promoted to co-DC with the announcements coming Saturday afternoon, January 12th 2019.

The coaching carousel wasn't full when Tucker left. Also, programs change a lot this time of year which opens up options and takes others off the table. It's a tricky process.

I know what you're scared of. I know what's lurking deep down in the dark recesses calling out to you from the back of your mind. The voice you are trying so hard to keep silent and keep from confronting....

"Foo, oh Foomanchoo, it's me...your gut instinct. WHy are you ignoring me? I want to tell you about Kirby's reputation for being hard to work with...and how he wants an assistant DC to him like Tucker instead of a DC who will actually be in charge...."

Yeah I don't buy that at all, we've had too many assistants turn down promotions elsewhere the last 2 years for that to be the case.

Having seen Kirby and the staff in a relaxed setting I don't believe he is more difficult to work for than any other coach that is at the top level of college football.

this isn't directed at anybody here, but if one hasn't ever hired anybody, one probably doesn't know the difficulty that is involved. Hiring qualified able employees that won't disrupt the staff is not easy. With the presence of agents and the fact that some of these "candidates" are really angling for raises at their current institutions makes me think that if CKS hasn't hired somebody yet probably means he isn't ready to do so. even if he doesn't hire anybody and takes over the defense himself, then so be it.

Mel Tucker was never really calling the D. Kirby always had the final say. Kirby kept Mel close to him during every game. Either way, Kirby is a good D coach and he was probably the one calling the D plays during the Sugar Bowl. But being HC and DC at the same time can be a very difficult job and not all are cut out for it.

More timeline perspective to explode patience/methodical/whoa-is-me-hiring-is-hard narratives:

-Chandy quit on Tuesday. And was replaced by Friday. You can probably still smell Arby's and other leftover food odors in the OC office as Coley moves in.

-Tucker quit a month ago. And the DC office has nothing but a couple dead roaches in the corners and those indention marks on the carpet from where furniture used to be.

Hmmm. Interesting.

And if that's the case, it would make it hard to find a DC that wants to come in and be an assistant DC like Tucker was, right? Instead of having full control?

Naw, nevermind. That's probably just your gut instinct talking. Ignore it. Its always wrong. Hiring is hard.

I don't know why. It's a big time position in a big time program and offers big time money. It also got Tucker a head coaching job.

I just think hiring a DC has been on the back-burner for a while with the early signing period, bowl game, and OC opening. Recruiting would be the only reason to hurry, but Kirby is a defensive HC so recruits feel pretty secure about the future of that side of the ball.

Of course Jefferson cates more about “now now now” than making a quality hire. So millennial.
