When you’re getting your arse beat what does it hurt to bring in the backup QB?

Tell me what it can hurt. We used fields less in a game where we needed him most.

All I’ve heard is Fields doesn’t have the playbook down. Ok so if he can’t play at least 30-50% of the time then that worries me. If Notre Dame and Clemson can have their freshmen QBs ready then what are we doing wrong?

If you want to know why Smart is maybe Mark Richt 2.0, then read his response.

LINK

That response by Smart is downright pathetic. There is no logic to what he did today.

This. Fields should have been in on the last possession of the first half at a minimium. Fromm was rattled and playing terrible. Give him time think about it and try something new.

And Fromm had all damn day to throw today. OL was not the problem

I’m sure you are saying this with an unblemished track record of heterosexuality.

Clearly Fields isn't as good as you guys think.

Again, not saying Kirby shouldn't have given Fields a chance. But if the way Fromm played today is still better what Fields shows in practice, he's clearly not the player you guys think he is.

He does well when he's in the game, yet we're supposed to believe he's stinking it up in practice?

Seriously....Fields must really not look good Sunday - Friday IF this staff, who presumably aren’t terrible coaches, are saying that Fromm is the best chance for success. Fields is apparently not near the talent we think he is. The only people who could possibly know for certain are coaches and players. Anyone outside of that group is merely working on conjecture and emotion.

He's done well with option runs. He's not done great in passing situations. We've got RB's for a reason but need someone who knows how to throw the ball and read defenses. Whatever you think about Fromm's performance today, it's clear that CKS thought that was the better option.

I guess it’s always SO OBVIOUS....I guess that’s why Tua was a backup last year....because he “wasn’t as good” as Jalen......even losing to auburn Tua wasn’t put in because he “wasn’t as good”.....but then Saban put him in the natty and he wins.

Why can’t we learn from other teams mistakes?

I don't know what he's done in practice. None of us do. What I'm saying is for Kirby to twice say after the game they play the best player to give them the chance to win, after that performance by Fromm, to me, is pretty telling.

That or Kirby is lying and a shitty coach for not playing the better player. I'm not ready to bail on Kirby. I think he k ows more about how ready Fields is than everyone on this board.

And I also criticized Kirby for not giving Fields a chance today.

He’s 18 of 25 for 200 yards, 2 TDS and 0 INTs in limited chances.

BS coach speak. There was never any legitimate QB competition. Fromm was the starter from day one. Smart just told Fields whatever he had too.

To borrow a thought from Allen Iverson, frick practice. Jake has come up very small when the lights come on.
