Late in the first quarter (LINK ), Texas had the ball first and goal from inside the LSU five yard line. On 2nd, 3rd, and 4th down, one or the other of LSU's inside linebackers crashed the LOS and stopped them short of the goal line. That goal line stand may have been the difference in outcome of the game.

I've seen UGA linebackers do that plenty of times in years past, but Georgia doesn't have that right now. Rewatch the Vandy game if you haven't. Our ILB play, either because of scheme, coaching, or talent is just plain bad. If it isn't fixed, that alone will cost UGA a shot at the playoffs IMO.

Rice has been solid in 2 games. Crowder just doesn’t have the talent to match

I still think Tae has potential considering this is only his third year even playing linebacker. But, I think by mid season, Nakobe will be familiar with the defense enough to start and be a force.

Tae whiffed on the Murray State qb. Webb came in for the big hit and fumble, but if you miss that tackle on a Tua that's a big play waiting to happen.

He still has the same issues from last season. Kirby has Quay, Adam, Tindall, Dean waiting in the wings. All those guys compliment Rice as they can cover and are good pass rushers.

Tae is intelligent and serviceable, he’s just not as good as we need him to be from a raw ability standpoint. He’s mostly getting the job done for now but this team will take off when someone with Nakobe or Tindall’s skill set matches the decision making necessary to play the position.

Rice isn’t perfect but he’s violent, fast, and makes plays happen

That wasn’t a QB.

Are these the same linebackers who helped give up 580 yards and 38 points ? Ya, good talk Rusty...

We'll know more about ILB, defense, and offense about 10:00 ET on Sept. 21.

Well obviously bias in this. But the last 3 games against D1 opponents (Texas A&M, USF and Texas) our Defense was not the best and frankly could not make a stop at all when it counted the most.
Short field when they can stack the line LSU's talent and speed is great. But spread em out and they have been like Traffic cones out there.

Cannot believe I am saying this but LSU's offense will have to win some games from them this year.

I wasn't talking about your overall defense, just Georgia's inside linebacker play and comparing to what happened on those plays. We're missing that run stopping LB who can plug the hole. They rarely attack the LOS on a run play, too often indecisive and don't advance before the RB or a blocker arrives. Sometimes they're ok on pass coverage, but even then the tackling is suspect. I'm sure it's partly scheme, but I think it's mostly lack of instinct.

I respectfully think you don’t know what you are talking about and are at best using anecdotal data to stretch to an assumption. Nice talk Rusty.

It's possible. I've been unimpressed, last year, and so far this year but it's only been two games. I'd rather see the most experienced guys hold it down because they're less likely to make bad mental errors. But if this is their best effort I hope Tindall, Dean, Walker or maybe Trezmen can take over as the season goes on.
