She told me she thought Atlanta was in Alabama and she thought Georgia was landlocked.....

Not that Kansas is a super relevant state, but most of my friends in Athens/Atlanta would openly admit they couldn't point it out on a map

Not terribly surprised at lack of people's knowledge concerning the South. Some years ago a young woman, I had briefly met, who was from outside the region asked if the Atlanta area had shopping centers? She was a college graduate also, fwiw. A lot of bias and bigotry out there where it concerns our region.

I work with many people from all over, the smartest about the south are midwesterners. The dumbest are pacific northwest and new england.

I spent a lot of my life living in the Midwest. Most of them can put Atlanta on a map. I feel like there are probably people in the South who can't put Minneapolis on a map. It has nothing to do with where they're from. There are morons everywhere.
