People hoping for justice in the murder of David Hooks are almost certain to be bitterly disappointed The Special Prosecutor is Chuck Spathos who, as Executive Director of the Prosecuting Attorney's Council, was instrumental in drafting Georgia's no-knock search warrant law.
Spathos is a long-time medical marijuana opponent and strong supporter of the so-called "war on drugs".

If I were on the grand jury, I'd be licking my chops to indict that sheriff's deputy.

It's problematic that the prosecutor has complete control. Grand jury proceedings are secret and even if the jurors vote to indict, the prosecutor could possibly announce a no bill and there would be nothing anyone could do.
In the Colorado murder case of JonBenet Ramsey the DA, Alex Hunter, announced that the grand jury returned a no bill. Thirteen years later it was revealed that the jurors voted to indict both parents for murder.

Spathos sounds like an extra special flavor of douche-scum

The relationship between the D.A. and law enforcement is already problematic. In this case, there was a relationship with both parties. I would be surprised if this case weren't set for trial. If David were AA,the Justice Dept would monitoring this case rather closely, imo.

It's amazing how little play the Hooks case has received in the national media. Radley Balko wrote a Washington Post article about the Hooks case and Huffington Post referenced Balko's article but other than those two, there's been nothing.
The Hooks case should've been on every TV networks evening news but there was nothing but Ferguson, MO as if police just murder minorities.
The narcs are equal opportunity killers.

was on the grand jury for gwinnett county sept 2013 to feb 2014...indictments are almost (99.999%) automatic... and while the proceedings are "secret", the outcome is determined by how the ADA wishes it to occur......
one of the biggest wastes of time in my life..

This is ridiculous....it would be just as easy and much less deadly to wait and pick up a suspect when they're coming or going from thier property. Busting in with guns drawn is going to continue to get innocent people killed.

But then how would the local police departments use their awesome SWAT gear and get to play Army?

They issued a warrant based on the testimony of a guy that robbed the Hooks home the previous night. That's the real head shaker. A guy that will say "anything " to save his own arse.

Not just a guy who robbed the house a couple of nights before. It was an admitted meth addict who was found with meth and then said he got it from robbing Hooks' home.
After the burglary, Hooks called the cops out to his house to report it. The cops had an open invitation to Hooks' home they could've called before arriving and they would've been welcomed with opened arms. Instead, the drug agents come in the dead of night in unmarked cars with headlights off wearing camo and carrying assault rifles.
Although the episode sounds like the world's dumbest drug operation gone bad, I'm not sure that it wasn't a planned murder.

Sheriff's dept. wanted his property. They were hoping he had drugs there so they could seize it. fricking cops aren't anything more than organized crime these days. Every one of them who fired their weapon that night belongs in jail!

You are right about the attempted property grab. David Hooks and his wife of 23 years had a very nice home that he built on his 200 acres. On that property also were two homes that Mr. Hooks' company built for his married children and grandchildren.
If the grand jury returns a no bill there needs to be a viral internet campaign to get the Feds involved.

I just read the Macon Telegraph story on the grand jury decision. There is so much in that story that is completely unbelievable.
