I am actually kind of salty about this one. If there was any prospect on this team that didn't live up to the 5 star billing consistently it was Trent. I feel like he disappeared in big games.

Good kid and wish him well, but ever since last year something has been going on and then the weird off season drama...no telling whats going on.

DGD, have fun in the NFL Trent. We will be fine imo, just hate the guy never was what he was supposed to be for us and now we will never know.

Sort of reminds me of Ray Drew, in unfulfilled potential.

Yet for very different reasons. Drew was a very high character guy who I don't think loved the game, honestly.

I am a little surprised, but I think we will be ok. Tyler Clark really came on strong this year.

Yeah, there is no way in hell he can get into the 1st round. His production was dreadful for the better part of the year. Maybe it was injuries, I don’t know. Outside of a few games, he really was disappointing after coming in as the #1 player in the nation. Sucks for depth but he’s replaceable.

I mean just think of a similar rated prospect, J. Clowney and what he did for USCe...Im a little salty abt trent, I thought maybe next year head finally put it all together.

Oh well.

I'm surprised as well, because I thought he would want to use next year to prove he was a very good player when healthy which would move him up a couple rounds.

But I also have no clue what his family situation is, and wish him the best of luck going forward.

I think most of us are salty to a certain point. He’s an adult and is in a position to make money. Maybe he’ll put it together in the NFL. I was always disappointed with his output, and believed another year in school would make him more money down the road. He wasn’t a bust but he’ll always be remembered as a guy who never lived up to expectations.

I think the bigger concern to me is that it may force our hand into taking 2 additional DTs in this class, even if we were to have the opportunity to take Tyson Campbell *and* either ITS or Goodrich. It has a cascading effect of allowing other DTs on the roster to potentially produce at a higher level next year that might trigger them to leave early as well. Tyler Clark for example... Having a stocked DL actually helps to bring guys back for their senior years IMO... running thin ends up putting a spotlight on one or two players, which increases draft stock and the cycle continues.

Would I prefer to have him even from a purely production standpoint? Absolutely. But he was passed on the depth chart for a reason... need to get other guys to fill in the space behind the starters now. Hopefully Wyatt had a great year of training at the JuCo and can come in ready to work.

Keep in mind he was supposed to have surgeries on both shoulders and I think only managed to have the one because of his reaction to the pain meds in the Spring. He has played hurt most of his career at UGA.

Doubt he goes any higher than 3rd but if he can get healthy he will be a force for someone in the league. Too big, strong, and fast not to succeed at that level. Just wish we could’ve seen him live up to his potential here; could’ve been a Da’ron Payne type force for us

It would be nice if Michael Carter would explode. Tyler Clark has become a force. We need Carter to become one too.

I'm sure TT knows that he's not leaving under perfect circumstances, but he decided to go anyway. I guess there were private considerations that made this the right choice for him.

It would have been nice to get a big defensive lineman in last year's class, or a couple ready to play in this year's class. Hopefully at least two of Barnett, Hawkins, Carter and Wyatt step up.

He had his best game vs Alabama. Looked downright unstoppable at times during the game. Finally looked to be living up to the immense potential.

I think he's taking that stock he just built and going with it. I think he lands in round 2. Hard to pass on a DT with that much ability.

Wish he would stay, but I understand him going pro, think he would improve his draft stock by staying, but whatever, opens up another ship for '18

Funny how he says he is going to leave and most on here are now saying he is a bust like Ray Drew.

It was said that he lost weight from the opiate problem he had when he left campus. He looked smaller during the season too, could be from not lifting weights like he would have if he stayed over the summer. Trenton Thompson was a beast at UGA and it is a shame that some on here wants to hate on him for leaving early. Plus the league minimum pay is still pretty damn good and much better than what he was making at UGA.

Yep. We got some serious shitbirds in this forum. As soon as one of these players do something they disagree with they try to burn them to the ground. It’s pretty darn pathetic.
