Seriously for fricks sake yall are like children. The guy worked his arse off as a shutdown corner for four years and was one of the best to ever play in Sanford.

But suddenly some of yall are ready to say frick all of that because he decided to play in one bowl game as to not risk hurting his draft stock and losing millions. Yeah screw him for thinking about his future, nah you're ability to pump your chest about the Sugar Bowl is more important.

Real easy to say he should play when you're not 23 and don't have millions of dollars staring at you

Okay - honest question time: same scenario (Baker not playing to protect his draft stock) except UGA wins the SECCG and is now facing the prospect of two games in the playoffs. Does that change the analysis?

If Georgia is the playoffs Baker is playing. In the playoffs he still has something to play for. In the grand scheme of things a non playoff game is nothing more then bragging rights

Get off my yard whippersnapper....

That said, it would be nice of the NFL to say that bowl games are still an important measuring stick come draft time and proving you are a team player is an important quality they want to see. Not to mention the match ups bowl games can create.

That is all they have to say, hell, just one or two gms can say it and this practice will end.

Without question. No one has sat out of the playoffs but its common, and increasing for non playoff bowls. Last count I saw this year was 15 players. Michigan had their top LB, DL and RB out. In a couple of years if we aren't in the playoffs we could have multiple offensive linemen sit out.

How much longer before a stud RB kills it as a freshman and sophomore then sits out his Junior year?

If a player is projected top three rounds they are eligible for the insurance thing. The policy pays apx 40% under their projected NFL contract so it doesn't fully cover what they would make. You have to think the players would rather play in the NFL than collect an insurance policy. Insurance pays a full amount for loss of an NFL career or partial amounts if their draft position drops due to an injury. Premiums are paid by the college with agreement the player will reimburse from either his NFL contract or collecting from the policy. Otherwise there would be more players going early or sitting out.

Players obvious don't care about a cotton bowl, sugar bowl, or any non playoff game. It's of inconsequence, just like any pro bowl game.

The old days are gone, time to adjust accordingly.

How, exactly, does playing two playoff games "not risk hurting his draft stock and losing millions"? He could turn in his two worst performances ever, or even one disastrous one, either of which might "risk hurting his draft stock". He has double the chance of injury compared to playing in one bowl game, thereby putting millions at risk. From a "risk" standpoint, playing in the playoffs makes even *less* sense than playing in a bowl game.

Hell, even Eric Dickerson - a mercenary player if ever there was one - played every game, all four years.

I don't think I'll go to work tomorrow morning - I might get into a wreck - but it's ok because today's mentality will support me anyways.

Yet. However, the playoffs are a very new thing. Further, sitting out of bowls is fairly new, and sitting out the latter part of a season just became a thing.

You're really trying to compare playing for a Chip via the CFP with a worthless exhibition game? They're COMPLETELY different scenarios. The Sugar Bowl is about as meaningful as a preseason NFL game.

Despite being shot down over and over and over, this point keeps getting parroted by short-sighted ESPNPC's.

Short of getting completely paralyzed, there is no injury that Baker could have sustained that would have cost him millions. He would have been a 1-3 round pick regardless of injury.

I’m a fan of Georgia not individual players. I don’t pick guys out and worship the ground they walk on. I dont all of a sudden quit giving a shite about the well being of Georgia for someone who is putting themselves above the team.

I don’t want to hear the bullshite about they risk millions by playing bowl games. They’ve played 40-50 games and they made it this far. 1 more game isn’t going to change shite. Judging by your logic guys may as well start sitting out the last half of their last year.

Oh frick off with that. It was a pointless game and he didn't want to risk losing out on a bunch of money of he got a major injury.

You're just acting entitled because some college kid rather not play one game where nothing was on the line.

It's called being smart dumbass. If Baker played in the Sugar Bowl and sustained a major injury he would have fallen out of the first round for sure which would cost him a ton. It's just smart planning. If it were the playoffs he would have been in. Grow up and stop crying that one guy decided to not play in one game

The only thing a player on the NC winner gains is bragging rights. Same as a non-playoff game. Same as the winner of the Georgia-Georgia Tech game. Baker should have sat that one out to protect himself for the SECCG. Right?

And you know a ring and being in this history books but yeah same exact thing. Just like how a preseason game is like the Super Bowl
