1943. I understand the why in recent history, but figured one would have been there in the last 70 years or so

Auburn played there in 13 and Bama in 09, but I guess those were "BCS Championships" and not "The Rose Bowl Game"

Wouldn't be our first dub in the Granddaddy

Oh my bad! I looked at the Bowl history and just figured it would have all college games there.

Was working in Pasadena in '13. It was bizarre having the town overrun with Auburn and FSU fans - it was like being back in the South for a couple of days.

The Rose Bowl committee got tired of "those eastern schools" coming in and winning so in 1946 they decided only the B9 (now the B10) and Pacific Coast Conference (forerunner of the Pac8-10-12) would be invited to their fancy little party. Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee are some of the SEC teams that beat the best of the west. They cloaked it in "preserving amateurism" but the pay for play scandals that rocked the PCC in the 1950s put that to an end. then they said it was because of the segregates Southern teams.
I asked a SoCal a-hole if he could post some pictures of blacks sitting in the stands among whites in the 1940s and 1950s but he couldn't do it.
