I listen to a lot of podcasts.
No one mentions salyer.
With the reps going to Shaffer the past couple of weeks, has anyone heard anything on Jamaree?
Is he nicked up?
Is he focusing as a backup tackle/center?
Or is there something else?

I expect big things out of him eventually, I don't think there's anythign wrong he's just been passed over atm. Shaffer is a Junior and has done well, Salyer is a true sophomore that just hasn't overtaken the guy in front of him. Not to mention Kindley is the supposed to be starter. The other guard spot is locked in with mays and cleveland. I'm sure next year we'll see a lot more from Jamaree.

Thanks.
I dont mind being patient. There is a big difference between underclassmen and upperclassmen in my opinion.
I just didn't expect Shaffer ahead of Salyer. I think it was rusty mansell who said Salyer was the best high school G he had ever seen. That isnt just from a physical standpoint. He was referencing hand placement, bend, and nastiness.
The 2nd week in a row that Shaffer had over Salyer just caught me by surprise (mid-game decision didn't shock me). Shaffer didn't get much talk in spring and fall camps. I'm glad he is getting an opportunity to show what he can do. Pff graded his pass pro very favorably in Neyland.

Salyer has also been practicing at RT and not playing a whole lot of guard. He’s been fine when he’s been in, just not quite as good as the starters we have.

Piggybacking I have a similar question. Mays starts ahead of Cleveland at RG but it was a close competition. With Kindley our why isn’t one of them at LG?

Typically, Mays has been the floater.
I know we had some packages where he filled in as an extra tackle/end against Tennessee.
One of the other things I was thinking of was getting Shaffer those meaningful game reps at guard. There is a large likelihood that Mays is a tackle for us next season and we may be without Cleveland and Kindley. Having Shaffer and Salyer as our 1-2 upperclass punch at guard could be important.

It wasn't just Rusty who gushed over Salyer, I think Sentell said he was a day-one starter and a future NFL guy

You are probably correct. One of the big boys of UGA recruiting.

He'll be regular rotation next year and starting senior year. Physically the kid is a prototype NFL guard, and he's got his head down working on getting better. He'll get his shot.
With the way UGA is recruiting we have to get out of the old mindset. Being a top 20-30 player in HS no longer means you immediately see the field at UGA. You might need to sit for 2-3 years, and that's fine. I think these players understand that; it's time fans start to realize that as well.

Just curious. When did you first know that Shaffer was ahead of Salyer on the depth chart?
For me, it was this past Saturday (the 2nd week where he got reps ahead of Jamaree).
I'm not arguing that Salyer should be entitled to anything. I read a lot and listen to a lot regarding the Bulldawgs. I haven't seen anything mentioned anywhere. This thread is the first anyone anywhere to my knowledge is confirming that Salyer is healthy and behind Shaffer in the playing rotation.
