Running the ball against ND

I've heard and read many UGA fans say that UL and NM ran the ball differently, using the QB as a runningback and running out of the spread. Here's my rebuttal:
Louisville's RB had 122 yards on 19 carries. New Mexico's leading rusher had 69 yards on 6 carries. That's 7.65 yards/carry for the running backs. I don't know how many of those yards were between the tackles and how many were outside. One could argue"well, UL and NM spread the ND defense out and ran it in those spread lanes". My counter-argument would be we can easily spread them out to, even though we're not a 'spread' offense by attacking the perimeter with our RBs and WR screens. From what i've read about ND's linebackers, they aren't the most athletic, they sometimes take bad angles, etc. I think we attack the perimeter as well as attack the interior and see what softens up first. My guess is that the interior will soften up first, which means it will be a long night for ND's defense.

They say both were only successful because of stretch options plays. Ha ha
They don't seem to understand we can just push them out of the way and hand the ball to 3 backs that are as good as any in football.

Could y'all imagine Brendan Douglas behind this OL?
Pure electricity. I have chills right now thinking about it.

ROWK run amok. I like it.

A mobile QB definitely gives you a wrinkle to add in a running game, but a disciplined, stout run defense can still shite that shite down. ND’s LBs and Safeties are suspect and our OL excels at getting to the second level. shite run defense is, for the most part, shite run defense.
Honestly, if we were willing to ride Swift behind this OL and give him 25-30 carries like teams used to back in the day, I’d put money on Swift breaking Herschel’s single game rushing record. If they stack the box, I don’t think they’re quick enough to contain if/when we bounce a run outside.

Yep. The linebacker could spend a hair longer looking at the QB which makes them get to the running back a little bit later or makes them miss a tackle. It’s definitely a factor in the running game, even if they don’t keep the ball.

They don't have the speed at linebacker to handle the sweep game. They don't have the athleticism in the middle to handle the power game.
UGA does both as well as anyone.
For that matter they don't have the depth in the secondary to stay with all of our receivers.
A disciplined and motivated Georgia team annihilates ND.

I'm hoping some of the younger guys can handle the spotlight on Saturday. Pickens could be lightning in a bottle for us, but he could potentially frick us out of some good, long drives with his antics. You know the ND secondary is going to try to draw that side out of him.

A good defense can stop or at least slow down the rush and make you beat them through the air. We were held below 200 yards rushing 5 times last year; Missouri, LSU, Florida, Alabama and Texas. In those games we rushed 180 times for 712 yards (including sacks), an average of 3.96 ypc. In all 5 games we averaged less than 5 ypc. We scored an average of 28.8 points and lost three of those 5 games. None of the games were in Athens.
ND may try to crowd the LOS, play tight coverage and force our inexperienced receivers to block well, get open and make catches. I don't know if their defense is good enough to do that successfully but it's a reasonable strategy.

Young WRs will always do better versus man than zone. They are used to man on man coming out of hs. Zone and knowing when and where to squat or run up the seem is much harder.
I expect Woerner and wolf to eat.

Sounds like most of the blame should be on the defense then.

I guess everyone forgot we gave up nearly 4 yds a carry against Vanderbilt. I'm glad we all seem to think ND has no shot but our run defense is unproven.
You better believe ND is gonna line up and push our arse around like Vandy did at times

Vandy has one of the top RBs in all of college football in Vaughn. ND's #1 RB is out, and #2 is questionable.

Hell, Frederick Douglass and Kirk Douglas (in their current states) could each probably put up close to 100 ypg behind this line.

We should hope so. That will play into the strength of our team.

Uhhhhh, the high school game has gotten pretty advanced unless you are watching some podunk slow assed white boys run the fricking Wing-T in your bumble frick little town.
HS teams run a bunch of zone coverage or hybrid pattern match style coverage. HS receivers are taught how to attack seams as well as how to sit in passing windows.
Don't know where you are getting your info from but you are wrong.

You can bet ND has spent a ton of time scheming for our run. We'll see how that works out. I expect us to try to create space with what we have already done - getting the backs out for screens and in the flat. I wouldn't be surprised either if we pull a Miss St play like we did 2 years ago and play action for a deep ball on first play from scrimmage.
